Aid starts entering Gaza through land after US ‘floating pier’ damaged by weather

The Israeli navy is heling the US recover ships that stabilized President Biden's $320 million pier

Aid began flowing into the Gaza Strip from southern Israel on Sunday, after a U.S.-made "floating pier" on the Mediterranean Sea was damaged by weather.

The new aid deployment is flowing through southern Israel due to disagreements with Egypt. The IDF has taken over the Gaza side of the Rafah crossing, which has typically been used for transporting aid throughout the conflict.

Egypt closed its side of the border when Israel took control of the Gazan side of the crossing, and says it will not reopen it until Palestinians are granted control.

Not a bad idea to use EV’s as mobile land mines in Gaza

RE: aid starts moving on land after floating pier damaged....

Slightly different take on this from the usual sled dog joke:

If you aren’t the lead mule then the view never changes the whole trip.

Why TF was there even a need for the pier, if aid could be brought by land anyway?
This was money laundering 101 all the way. It was never intended to work. #FJB

Someone please explain to me why the U.S. Army is in charge of a salt water marine docking structure. What kind of idiocy is this?

I’ll do my best to explain the idiocy, although I’m no expert on the Army or idiocy in general. My knowledge on the subject comes from a YouTube channel ‘What’s Going on With Shipping, which I can recommend.

The Army used to have a large number of ships and equipment to deal with landing troops and equipment on shores both hostile and non-hostile. Yes the Navy & Marines do that sort of thing, but then too so does the Army. It does seem counter intuitive, but the Army has always had boats/ships.

All three branches involved have been shedding equipment before the replacements have been built and so when FJB promised a pier for Gaza at the SOTU, they decided to go with what was on hand. At least two or more ships for the mission have had major breakdowns and like most of what Brandon touches, the operation has been FUBAR.

That’s just the beach side “dock”. There’s an unconnected pier somewhat further out in the water, where the depth allows large cargo ships. Those large ships unload onto the pier, then smaller ships transport the goodies to the “dock”.

(I’m likely using the wrong terminology.)

The You Tuber “What’s Going On With Shipping” explained it a lot better, then pointed out the inefficiency and asked why not just bring the goods in via an existing Israeli port, then truck it to Gaza. And here we are!

This is how it works. A member of the swamp gets the contract since he already has a contract with the army for other things. He in turn hires other swamp creatures and their kids.

Several times now I’ve read that 569 metric tons of aid has been transferred via the “pier” into Gaza, but, it has not been delivered to the Palestinians.

So, who has it? The Israelis? The UN?

That’s a pretty small pier for ?330 Mil.

Halliburton (or whoever) thanks you for their 98% profit on the Pier to Nowhere.

Yes the Navy & Marines do that sort of thing, but then too so does the Army. It does seem counter intuitive, but the Army has always had boats/ships.

The war in Ukraine is a great example of that. The Russians tried to build pontoon bridges to get their troops across the Dnipro River. They haven't been able to do it so far in this war because the Ukrainians keep blowing them up.

So yes, the U.S. Army needs to have that kind of capability.
