Yes the Navy & Marines do that sort of thing, but then too so does the Army. It does seem counter intuitive, but the Army has always had boats/ships.

The war in Ukraine is a great example of that. The Russians tried to build pontoon bridges to get their troops across the Dnipro River. They haven't been able to do it so far in this war because the Ukrainians keep blowing them up.

So yes, the U.S. Army needs to have that kind of capability.
