The Conservative Party has said it would bring back mandatory national service if it wins the general election. It said 18-year-olds would have a choice of either joining the military full-time, or volunteering one weekend every month carrying out a community service. The party is proposing a Royal Commission to consider the details but would plan for the first teenagers to take part in September 2025. The cost is expected to be around £2.5bn per year. Under the plans, young people could choose a full-time, 12-month placement in the armed forces or UK cyber defence, learning about logistics, cyber security, procurement or civil response operations. Their other option would be to volunteer one weekend per month - or 25 days per year - in their community with organisations such as fire, police and the NHS.

In an eternal world, I don’t have a problem with mandated services. But not in this world. It’s too tempting to make people permanent wards of the state.
But if Christ came and He said that was the best way to be, I’d have no problem with it, because I can trust Christ to not abuse it and permanently enslave people.
Socialism, in all its forms, can only work in an eternal world where we have God being the guardrail from going too far.

It would be abused, if it were allowed. Liberals have always abused the goodwill programs that were set up for the common good.
I honestly believe it is possible that Heaven is a fascist place, as the word is actually defined and not the slur used by liberals to describe conservatives.
I could actually see a Star Trek type economy functioning in eternity, with automation being so productive that it can provide for everybody and everybody working at their best levels doing things they love.
But socialism can only work in Heaven and not on this plane. On this plane, we need to be free in order to do our best.

During time of war, there’s a cause and a goal. But otherwise, I think it’s a bad idea to give the feds more excess to the young folks then what’s absolutely necessary..
Not such a good idea. There are some 18-year-olds you would not want on your side in the military.
