Zelensky No Longer Legitimate President of Ukraine - Putin
Sputnik News ^ | 5/24/24 | Ilya Tsukanov

Volodymyr Zelenesky's constitutionally-mandated term as Ukraine's president expired on May 21. The leader canceled elections planned for March or April last November, claiming it was "utterly irresponsible" to discuss such matters amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.

President Zelensky's legitimacy has expired, and Russia will proceed from this fact, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said.

"Of course, we are aware that the legitimacy of the current head of state [of Ukraine] has ended," Putin said at a press conference in Minsk on Friday after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Putin recommended anyone looking for answers regarding Zelensky's legal status to look to the Ukrainian Constitution - which does not authorize the artificial extension of his presidential term under the pretext of martial law.

Lukashenko echoed Putin's assessment, saying that "there is no legal integrity, and cannot be any legal integrity" on this question.

"All the same, I believe that neither the current president nor the future one can resolve the big issues facing the state of Ukraine and the people of Ukraine. These issues will not be resolved by presidents. You know who will decide them. A lot has already been decided overseas, and what hasn't, will be decided later," Lukashenko said.

The Belarusian president added that there were plenty of people in Ukraine, both in the military and among civilians, who would like to lead the country, and "in a new way, [either] toward war or against war."

A defiant Zelensky has rejected questions on his legitimacy from his critics in Ukraine, and from Kiev's Western 'partners'. "My five-year term is not over yet. It is continuing due to martial law," Zelensky told Reuters on Tuesday.

Ukrainian parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk warned Wednesday that Kiev would consider anyone who doubts Zelensky's legitimacy "enemies of Ukraine" and "political bottom-feeders."

I have no use for Zelensky, but I understand the Ukrainian Constitution allows for suspension of elections when under Martial Law.

The present circumstances appear to allow for a legitimate imposition of Martial Law.

He is still horrible.

Atlantic Council: The rules-based international system was constructed mostly by leading democratic allies at the end of World War II, and was deepened and expanded by many other countries over time. The system is predicated on a set of norms and principles pertaining to global security, democratic legitimacy, the economy, and governance. It consists of: a set of rules encouraging peaceful, predictable, and cooperative behavior among states that is consistent with liberal values, democracy, and principles;

Putin: Fine by me. How about Zelensky?

Horrible for leading the defense of his country against an utterly unjustified invasion? Please.

Putin: Fine by me.

Great. Remove all your troops and civilian flunkies from Ukrainian soil and we can start afresh, following the rules.

Russian elites (not just Putin) are such a pack of liars. As any diplomat who has ever negotiated with them will tell you. They positively revel in telling falsehoods to non-Russians. Like the Moslems' Al-Taqqiya, it's part of their secular religion.

Even if granted, those are trivia compared to the Russian record of diplomatic dissimulation going back to the Tsars. A comprehensive list would fill volumes big enough to dwarf Gibbon or Tolstoy. But you wouldn't know, being of the u-tewb/xitter/faceplant generation.

“(Zelensky) is still horrible.”

Considering he was a Jewish comedian of SNL caliber (which is not a compliment coming from me) and for the past two and a half years he’s managed to lead his country into stalemating Putin’s Russian war machine I’d say he can’t be all that horrible as a Ukrainian war leader.

I believe it is fair to apply Shakespeare’s comment to Zelensky:

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

Zelensky had greatness thrust upon him.

Back in March 2022 absolutely no one in the world would have faulted him for fleeing Ukraine and capitulating to Russia.

Instead he stayed and fought. He really didn’t have to.

And then after he rallied his forces against the invader foreign countries saw that Ukraine had a chance and the support started coming in. All because of this ‘horrible’ man.

I wish we had some like him in the USA. Too many creatures that call themselves ‘men’ in this country lack such fortitude.

Yeah yeah yeah.
It’s the shtick of a specific zeeper to constantly go “Someone tell” as if everyone has a direct line to whatever nebulous someone the zeeper is hating on at the moment.

“he’s managed to lead his country into stalemating “

BZZZT, wrong.
the US meddling into and propping him up had more to do with it than his leadership.
That and coke.
Lots of coke.
I still recall his tweaking interview.
