2. The FBI’s response to the news was, “it’s no big deal….we are empowered to open fire ALL THE TIME.”

Every police officer that carries a sidearm is empowered to use deadly force only when appropriate.

Did you even read what I posted?

If so, you would have seen this:

"Law enforcement officers of the Department of Justice may use deadly force only when necessary, that is, when the officer has a reasonable belief that the subject of such force poses an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to the officer or to another person.

"Deadly force may not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect.

"Firearms many not be fired solely to disable moving vehicles. Specifically, firearms may not be discharged at a moving vehicle..."

Not exactly empowered to just open fire at will.

In other words, it’s at the officer’s discretion.

There are plenty of folks who believe Trump is like Stalin. Such a nut job may believe Trump was putting his life in danger. Boom. And he’d walk.

Make no mistake, I’m not demanding that LEOs be shackled. They are admirable men and women - for the most part - who, broadly, stand between the citizenry and the scum of the earth.

But this language is all about total deferment to what the OFFICER believes. It doesn’t say “what a reasonable person would believe.” If the officer panicked and blew off someone’s head, the language would allow the officer to get a pass.
