Bird flu or avian flu has been around since 1878. How come no humans in this country contracted it until now, in a Presidential election year?

Individuals may have occasionally contracted it but didn’t know.

Or it may have mutated to where it now affects humans. It’s the nature of viruses to mutate, and this one is apparently very good at it.

Especially with a little help from friends. If it so good at mutating, pardon my skepticism that it took 146 years to mutate to this specific point in time.

It mutates all the time. (And 146 years ago, we didn’t have the technology or organization to always detect it in humans OR animals. This highly pathogenic version of A(H5N1) was first identified in Scotland, in 1959, with the first human transmission recorded in 1997..)

Again, I am not concerned with human infection. I’ve VERY worried about livestock infection and what this could do to farmers.

Everyone knows that virii are more contagious and virulent in years divisible by 506, its like the horseradish/deer and months with an R in them thing.

I’ve gathered that you are really concerned with government trying to force us into another human vaccination scenario. For me to concur in your concerns would require that I even see a human epidemiological danger - and I don’t.

Again - and I don’t know how often I have to state this - I am NOT CONCERNED with human infection, and have no interest in discussing the ramifications of that.

What I know is that this could become a big problem for livestock farmers, and THAT is my concern.

I haven’t once touted any human danger on this thread - except for the economic damage that our farmers might endure.

You need to argue your points with the ones here who share your concerns.

"I’ve gathered that you are really concerned with government trying to force us into another human vaccination scenario."

First of all, I'm not the one touting the dangers of human infection. That's this government and the media. They are in cahoots. I'm also not worried at all about the government forcing shots (they are not vaccines) on us, because I never complied with anything they put out there for Covid. But unfortunately, there are plenty of stupid people who have no common sense, who will go off the deep end and attack people who don't comply with the rules the government sets. The government will overreach as it always does when RATS run the show. Just because everything they touted about Covid was BS, it won't stop this current government from trying to pull that BS all over again, especially in an election year. It worked so well for them the last time. Even gave them the opportunity to steal a Presidential election. And who is going to stop them? The Republicans? Har-dee-har-har.

As far as livestock infections go. I believe this is man-made and deliberate, just like I believe that Covid was deliberately released on the world. And the timing of it is not a coincidence, as the timing of Covid wasn't a coincidence either. And Republicans were gutless and clueless then too.

Do you think Avian Influenza was ‘man made’ every time it happened in the past?

You know, sometimes disease in critters just happens.

Thanks for the conversation.

"Do you think Avian Influenza was ‘man made’ every time it happened in the past?"

Of course not, but it's been out there long enough for evil people to manipulate it for their own destructive purposes, and use it at a time they choose, like they did Covid to destroy people's lives.

Well, considering the evidence so far, we’ll have to disagree.

As some old guy is purported to have said, ‘sometimes a cigar is just a cigar’.

When you have more evidence - perhaps actual virological proof - instead of just fear and preconditioned notions - get back to me.

This might be interesting to you, since you’re worried about human infection and how our government might use it to ensnare us.

It’s a year old, but includes data going back 20 years. Human to human transmission is still extremely rare, and it would take quite a jump for the ‘deep state’ to force a vaccine on us (and you’ll especially like the comments):

That should keep you busy for a while.

I have to go to bed.

As part of our summer research, I’ve handled about 50 live birds so far this nesting season. Mainly House Sparrows (which we trap and destroy) and Tree Swallows.

We’ve found one European Starling, one Eastern Bluebird and one Tree Swallow - all adults - dead in boxes. The Bluebird was in poor condition and had a fat score of 0 (the lowest on a scale from 0 to 5). The Starling was underneath some nest substrate that another pair of Starlings had used to build a nest. The Tree Swallow was in good condition and in a box that had two eggs already in a clutch. We’ll know more about the Tree Swallow nest and if the female that was laying eggs had died or if it was a conspecific female (essentially a helper female, common in Tree Swallows) at the next check.

It’s really about assessing risk and taking steps to mitigate risk where appropriate. We use IPA 90% to reduce cross box transmission of ectoparasites such as red mites, avian pox and the like. I assess the risk of those two conditions as more likely than HPAI.

I’m not concerned about contracting HPAI given the current status of the virus. I’m more concerned about keeping an eye on lightning, given all boxes are in metal piles in open areas (haha!).

You seem to think I’m worried about human infection. I’m not worried about that, just like I wasn’t worried about Covid. The BS they pulled with Covid around the world like using scare tactics to get people to comply, pushing untested, dangerous shots, blocking people from buying and using certain drugs like Ivermectin, going after doctors and scientists who had different opinions on Covid, do you think that was a one off, and that nothing like that will happen again, when the media is right now ramping up the fear factor over two individuals contracting avian flu from cows. Somebody’s feeding that crap to the press to push onto the public, because in reality, the media as a whole is too lazy to investigate, research, and discover anything like that on their own. And it’s just a short step from there for evil people to manipulate it, and use avian flu to escalate their agenda to eliminate access to certain animal products. They’ve already been trying to do that by going after the farmers and ranchers for years. This is just one more way for them to reach their goal.
