Agreed. Wheeler, the mayor, cut a deal with antifa, years ago. If Antifa didn't trash the city, Wheeler would throttle the police department. (The Portland city council are not only council members, they are also the commissioners of the various city departments. The mayor is also the head of the police department.)

Antifa broke the deal after Floyd, and laid siege to police stations and court houses, broke every pane of glass downtown, tore down all the statuary and fountains.

All the good PPD cops retired early, quit, or were fired, and currently, the PD is 300+ short of minimums, to provide even minimal coverage of the neighborhoods. (Response times for 911 calls is about 90 minutes.) Last year, the Portland PD gang unit was down to one guy at a desk.

Vasquez is being set up to fail, but Schmidt is too much of an embarrassment to be retained. He was thrown under the bus by the Party.

There will be no improvement, but Vasquez will blame his failure on Schmidt.

A lot of people have left the democrat regime in Portland. Some voters have switched from democrat to independent. Portland has been turned into a sh#thole by the leftist democrats and has been going downhill since the BLM/Antifa riots, the election of Gov. Kotex and an influx of California foreigners. Businesses have deserted the leftist, crime infested dump and sane people have been leaving the city in droves. The liberals have always chanted,” keep Portland weird.” Now it’s weird and vacant except for the weirdos.
