The difference in the New Jersey case is that the governor's office and the state legislature were all controlled by Democrats. It wasn't a judge who ordered Lautenberg onto the ballot; it was a judge who ruled there was no legal impediment to having him put on the ballot.

This is the opposite scenario -- where the legislature clearly isn't keen on the idea of ignoring its own ballot deadline.
