As things stand, Joe Biden will not be on Ohio's general election ballot in November, setting up potentially disastrous down-ballot consequences for Democrats.
For months, the president and his party have been pushing the legislature to pass a "fix" that would allow him to make the state deadline in early August. On Wednesday, the Republican-led legislature justifiably told him to pound sand.
The fix won’t happen through the legislature, said Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens, R-Kitts Hill, and Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo, D-Upper Arlington, during separate gaggles Tuesday morning.
“There’s just not the will to do that from the legislature,” Stephens said.
Russo said she was skeptical the fix was ever going to happen in the legislature.
“We’ve seen the dysfunction here in this place,” she said. “And I think we’ve seen that folks have not been able to put aside partisanship and hyper-partisanship and infighting. … I think at this point, you’re probably going to see either, you know, some sort of inner party effects or perhaps court action.”
At issue is the fact that the Democrat National Committee (DNC) flouted known state law in Ohio and scheduled the close of its nominating convention on August 22nd. The deadline to file as a candidate for the general election ballot is August 7th. That means Biden will not technically be the nominee in time to qualify.
While Biden was never going to be competitive in Ohio, his absence could depress turnout, leading to losses in down-ballot races for his party. Notably, all of this is happening with the backdrop of multiple Democrat-led states attempting to forcibly remove Donald Trump from the ballot. ….
Naturally, Ohio's moderate Republican governor still wants to see a "fix" happen.

Doesn’t that mean his replacement won’t be on the ballot either?
It could backfire on the GOP in Ohio, if to too many people it resembles the Dim tactics to keep Trump off the ballot.
It’s not a Federal ballot.
“Stupid move by the DNC.....”
The DNC believes rules, requirements and the such are for others to follow, not them.
FJB as a write in candidate
LOL
I know he won’t be kept off the ballot, can’t happen, but if he were Bernie Moreno might win.
RNC should INSIST that Crazy Joe should be on the ballot. Just that will scare the DEMOCRAPS.
In other years the Ohio legislature has passed laws allowing a later date, but ot this year.
Personally I think it's a dirty move, but the Democrats have already shown that this year's election is dirty by arresting President Trump and unleashing the lawfare and tge FBI against him.
One more thing: If Biden gets on the ballot by signatures he will still be the one on the ballot in Ohio even if the Dummyrat convention picks someone else. Haha!
If not, lawsuit or write-ins.
Joe will still win Ohio by 10 million write-in votes..
Ha
“ Peoples right to vote for their preferred candidate is more important than silly laws. ”
There is no such right, at least as it pertains to how State Legislatures appoint their Electors.
A local judge from a town of 5,000 people will enjoin the state and force a ballot reprint.
Agreed…..but the judge thinks there is….
The DNC can certify Biden as their candidate and have him on the ballot, but they need to do it before the deadline. The state doesn’t care if he’s picked in convention or in committee. DNC knew this date was out there. They had to. Why did they set up a potential controversy like this?
My guess is, it is an attempt to get a court to steamroll the state legislature out of its legitimate authority. Just another step toward the rat police state.
What that means is that someone who asks for a Democrat only ballot won’t see Biden’s name, so will have to write him in.
If the RNC does this with Trump, I will crawl over broken glass, walk on molten lava, just to write Donald John Trump’s name in the slot.
What ???? Bad news for Moreno???
Dems won’t show up to vote for Brown without Biden. No Biden advertising, etc. This should finish Brown off. It will move OH to the #2 slot for Senate pick ups.
Good. Brown is a schmuck.
Marquis de Queensbury rules, but with broken bottles and shivs.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose:
“I didn’t schedule the Democratic Party’s convention. The Democratic Party did. I didn’t write Ohio’s current ballot access law. Democratic legislators did. Ironically, both can also fix this.
I also appreciate that some might find the law minor or procedural, but I don’t get to decide which ones to enforce. Ballot access rules on the front end of an election are just as important as ballot counting rules on the back end. When you start bending rules, you might as well not have them.”
