Artificial intelligence scientist Geoffrey Hinton, known as the “Godfather of AI,” is urging the British government to enforce a universal basic income (UBI) to cope with the impact of AI technology.
Universal basic income is a social welfare system in which the government provides every citizen with a standard minimum income. These payments are unconditional and transferred to citizens on a regular basis without any pre-qualification. The concept is in keeping with the Marxist ideal of wealth redistribution and has been proposed by socialist figures such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Hinton told BBC Newsnight that a universal basic income is necessary because he is “very worried about AI taking lots of mundane jobs.” The scientist explained that AI would benefit the rich and not “the people whose jobs get lost.” If wealth is not redistributed, Hinton warned, “that’s going to be very bad for society.”
“I was consulted by people in Downing Street and I advised them that universal basic income was a good idea,” he said.

AI experts think they know how to help economy, believe they have to social economic solutions. “AI experts.”
The “AI” just regurgitates what it programmed to say.
Fixed.
I’m no fan of the concept, but I’ve said for years that when Robots and computers can replace all jobs. And by “all”, I mean “all”, the only way most people can survive will be through a stipend. It’s either that or civilization collapses.
However, that won’t work because we already have something like it called welfare and its cousins. That may keep the poor alive, but their quality of life SUCKS. Human beings have three innate desires.
1. Food, water and air
2. Sex
3, Feel useful.
This would destroy number 3. That is where unrest, revolutions, etc. come from. Frankly, I think we’re already seeing it.
I still don’t understand the thinking.
The fear seems to be: “AI took my job! I have no hope of an income!” and the Basic Income “solution” usually seems to be: “Here, have $1000 a month. Now you have an annual income of $12,000 for the rest of your life. I have saved you.”
I never see any Basic Income suggested that would be large enough to do anything for anyone. Of course, if they “gave” everyone a truly large sum each year it would cause massive inflation and disruption. I just don’t see any scenario where a Basic Income does anyone any good. It will always be either too small or too large. It’s asking for trouble.
It’s a bribe for votes and it seems pretty blatant.
End the leftist minimum wage laws and bring back the plethora of entry level and unskilled jobs that used to exist in our economy.
More government will not fix this or any other problem.
Anything to make money worth even less.
It’s the commie way.
Where does the “wealth” come from if no one is working productively?
Who creates and maintains the AI if everyone is getting paid for not working?
If it “learns” off of the information being passed around on social media it is going to be artificial stupidity, essentially a busybody Karen determined to suck the life out of society.
These “AI Experts” and their predictions of AI taking-over everything are becoming ridiculous.
I’m reminded of Al Gore’s “expert” prediction that by 2013, NY City would be under 2 feet of water due to global warming
So let me get this straight....
The government taxes people so it can have money to spend on stuff.
This guy is proposing that the government take some of that money they took from people, and give it back to people, basically everyone, or am I missing the meaning of universal?
Do you see my confusion? How can the government take money from people if they don’t have money to begin with (because AI took their jobs) and pay them with what?
Aside from taxing, what other sources of income does government have? Where’s the money going to come from???
What the globalist slavers want, is for the peasants to be kept under control, by trapping them in poverty forever.
The more responsibility they have for you, the more authority they have over you.
So you’d need like a 99% tax rate and it still wouldn’t work?
There will always be a need to fix new technology, update it, repackage it, sell it, and then all the new technology it generates will need the same.
The problem with an unearned basic income is that all prices will rise because people spend easy money in stupid ways, on chips and soft drinks, etc. When people aren’t frugal vendors increase prices as high as people will tolerate, and people tolerate a lot when they are spending other people’s money.
Someone has to put value in the money by working for it.
Jobs AI won’t be doing: bathing the elderly in nursing homes, tending to the handicapped, cleaning up after dogs and cats....room as are neat but not that good.
There will be new kinds of work but what they will be isn’t known yet.
Agree with you on number 3... that is also when the powerful get bad ideas about what to do with all the unwanted people.
bkmk
Universal income is about control and extermination. No shots, no money
The key to a prosperous life is to skate to where the puck will be. Think about the education you will need. Constantly retool yourself and keep up to date. Don’t be satisfied flipping burgers. It’s a dog-eat-dog world out there — always has been and always will be.
