I was inside the court when the judge closed the Trump trial, and what I saw shocked me
The New York Post ^ | 05/21/2024 | Alan Dershowitz

*** [I]n my 60 years as a lawyer and law professor, I have never seen a spectacle such as the one I observed sitting in the front row of the courthouse yesterday.

The judge in Donald Trump’s trial was an absolute tyrant, though he appeared to the jury to be a benevolent despot. He seemed automatically to be ruling against the defendant at every turn. Many experienced lawyers raised their eyebrows when the judge excluded obviously relevant evidence when offered by the defense, while including irrelevant evidence offered by the prosecution.

But when the defense’s only substantive witness, the experienced attorney Robert Costello, raised his eyebrows at one of New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan’s rulings, the court went berserk. Losing his cool and showing his thin skin, the judge cleared the courtroom of everyone including the media. For some reason, I was allowed to stay, and I observed one of the most remarkable wrong-headed biases I have ever seen. The judge actually threatened to strike all of Costello’s testimony if he raised his eyebrows again. ***

I am one of the few witnesses to his improper conduct who remained behind to observe his deep failings.

Even when journalists do report on courtroom proceedings, their accounts must be taken with a grain of salt. When you watch CNN or MSNBC, you generally see an account of a trial that never took place.

*** There is absolutely no good reason why a trial of this importance, or any trial, should not be televised live and in real time. ***As Justice Louis Brandeis wisely said a century ago, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”*** Today there is no check on partisan reporting of trials and exaggerations and personal opinions are rampant. ***

Derschy does not get it. He is a democrat.

And now Democrats have become fascists.

Problem with Derschy is that he is not shocked ENOUGH.

British judges pulled off this same crap as Judge Juan......they were tarred , feathered and run out on rails. and their tyrannical families moved lock stock and barrel out of their respective seats by patriots in Massachussetts.

Judge Juan needs the same. Derschy should know that.

We sure as hell know that.

“Problem with Derschy is that he is not shocked ENOUGH.”

For years, Dersh has proudly announced that he’s a RAT who voted for Hillary, and would do it again. I expect that has not changed.

Amazing that Democrats support the disintegration of our judicial system and the collapse of our country.

Yep! I wonder, too.

Will Alan have his law license threatened?
Will he be sued into bankruptcy?
Will the Deep State find imaginary crimes to imprison him?

***And the Democrat party will have to be dissolved and those who are presently part of it permanently barred from participating in politics in any way***

Yes, I have been posting this for at least a year on FR, X and TS. As a matter of fact, in hindsight, it should have been outlawed following the 'civil war'. Since that time their practices have been grossly illegal and immoral - always with an eye towards how to gain control of their country, in which they failed in 1865.

Now their clear intent is to overthrow the established Constitutional order. They have 'cleansed' their ranks of any dissent and always vote en masse on their core issues, just like all totalitarian political movements.

Worse, their original opposition was the Whig Party, an indecisive weak defender of the Republic. A strong leader, Abraham Lincoln, reorganized that party in to the Republican Party - the GOP. Now the GOP has reverted into Whigs and a strong leader, Donald Trump, needs to restore populist government. The Democrat Party, now seizing control of govt enforcement organs, appears ready to return to civil war to achieve their totalitarian goals.

They can't all be Bums, could they?

They could be.

Those who aren't, have a loved ones they've been reminded several times who could have an unfortunate "accident" if they vote to acquit.

Or even worse, engage in jury nullification, publicizing the very existence of jury nullification is something the "legal" system fears above all else.

I good part of that (and it’s true for both parties) is the high value in multiple terms of office. Reduce that value through term limits and you will go a long way toward solving the problem. Also move back toward the Founder’s structure by repealing the 17th Amendment. (State legislatures couldn’t do worse!) Push more and more authority and administration for regulations back toward the states. For example, environmental regulations, FedGov may fund but state officials will enforce or choose not to enforce locally. In fact, the state can push it down to the lowest governing level county or city. Where again enforce or chose not to enforce with the consequences of either falling on the most local official. The state & below know what’s best for themselves locally!

As long as they can lord over the ashes and rule over the rubble, it's all good.

***term limits ... repealing the 17th Amendment ... authority and administration for regulations back toward the states***

Some good suggestions. I suspect that repeal of the 17th has become a top priority, ironically. Also, as to 'regulations', Congress has gone a way too far in turning over their legislative Constitutional duties to Executive Department bureaucrats {separation of powers}. Congress is emasculating itself to the point that about all they can legislate on is memorial days or months and the federal budget 👉AND on this latter score they are virtually a total failure; they only pass continuing resolutions and pass laws of hundreds and hundreds of pages, full of pork barrel vote buying.

Then this present administration is spending unaccountable $billions without Congressional authorization - which is rocketing inflation with little public and/or media oversight.

figure out what supposed crime Trump committed other than breathing

~~~~~~~~~
The crime is espousing populist ideas.
~~~~~~~~~~

A lot more than that. He knows their corruption and criminal acts and plans to go after them once back in the WH. And has the evidence. That’s why they raided Mar A Lago, to see what evidence he had, take and now we know, kill him into the bargain.

There is little chance that Trump will be going back to the White House. Currently, Trump and Biden, who is an absolute disaster, are running neck and neck. Once Biden drops out, the new Democrat presidential candidate, who will be a lot more palatable to the voters, will win in November. By hook or crook, the Democrat will win. Just my two cents
