Trump defense rests at New York hush money trial, ex-president doesn't testify
CNBC Business News ^ | 21 May 2024 | Dan Mangan

Posted on 05/21/2024 10:07:12 AM PDT by zeestephen

Trump's decision not to take the witness stand was not a surprise, as testifying carries serious risks for any criminal defendant, particularly one with a tendency to speak off the cuff and undercut his prior statements, as he has shown in testimony in other civil matters...Trump had previously said he was "absolutely" willing to testify in the case...

The way this judge has been ruling for the prosecution there’s no way Trump should have testified.

I've long believed he would be convicted, no matter what and then win on appeal. I'm now leaning to, in order:

Mistrial/hung jury

Not Guilty

Directed verdict

Smart move by Trump’s attorneys. These amoral prosecutors would claim that whatever Trump said under oath was a lie and would immediately indict him for perjury.

Trump had previously said he was “absolutely” willing to testify in the case...

Nobody believed that.

The verdict was ordered months ago. This is a show trial, Trump will be declared guilty, and thrown in prison. Merchan is a demon with orders from Satan’s pals in the democrat party. Prepare accordingly.

I assume the request for a directed verdict was refused, but I didn’t see anything about it specifically.

Judge has asked the jury to return next week, and closing arguments to be made then.

You just called Trump a liar, well you are wrong l have no doubt he was quite willing to testify. The smart move was not to so he didn’t.

There should be a petition signed by lawyers, DAs and other legal beagals saying that that trial was a sham. It would be better than the lying “intellegence” agents who said the laptop was Russian disinformation.

Then Trump could point to that petition when accused of being a “convicted felon”.

With this judge it would have been a massive mistake to testify. As could be seen yesterday, the judge was intervening and badgering the defense witness when he did not answer the questions the way the prosecution wanted him to. It would have been an absolute 2 on 1 with the “impartial referee”

Merchan made it clear in court, according his own self-serving TDS belief, that the predicate crime did not have to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. SO a directed verdict would have been a futile effort. Nevertheless, they better have filed one to keep the later appeal available

They’re not supposed to but hopefully some members will do some actual research in the next week and realize they’ve been played for suckers.

Trump not Guilty.

Usually, the defense rests and renewed motions to dismiss or for a directed verdict are submitted and argued before summations.

It should be a directed verdict. There’s no evidence to show guilt.

Hey, Merchan, you are making Donald Trump stronger in the eyes of the public every day. Go ahead and put him in jail. Convict him unfairly. I can’t wait to vote for him…no matter what you do.
