I guess the early reports were (sort of) a translation problem. In the West, a “hard landing” implies a generally survivable event, perhaps an autorotation when talking about helicopters.
Russia uses “Hard landing” where we would use “Crash”. it is thought that the Iranians must have followed a similar wordage in this incident. They quickly switched to “Crash”, apparently when they learned how it was being interpreted.
Apparently almost all the Iranian helicopters are old and / or have a lot of flight hours on them. Western nations won’t sell them choppers, but I’d think surely Iran could obtain competent machines from Russia. Maybe they should have spent less on rockets and missiles for Hamas and Hezbollah, and more on recent build transportation for their officials?
On Al-Jazeera they are already blaming the west for this, since the helicopter had obsolete parts due to the unfair sanctions.

Right now the Biden cabal is assembling at least $1 billion in cash for quick transport to Iran. If there is another popular uprising against the mullahs, they mullahs will need hard cash to pay their thugs to beat down the people again. Cash from the Democrats is what saved the mullahs the last time.

This doesn’t play out well with their eschatology which says Allah is suppose to win, and the Great Satan States, Israel and the USA are the ones to have helicopters crash. Allah knows best.
