Why we can’t have nice things.
Time to start shooting looters
Those signs are aluminum, I believe.
Several years ago, in Florida some college students stole a stop sign to hang it in their dorm room. A driver was killed by a car that didn’t stop as the sign was gone. The students were hunted down and sent to prison for manslaughter. If someone is stealing traffic lights the same thing should apply. Hunt down and send to prison.
To deter copper theft in Florida you must submit your driver’s license to sell copper. More than one or two sales will earn you a visit. Only some businesses are allowed to recycle things like air-conditioners because they were so frequently stolen. When I took a bunch of copper in I took paperwork showing I was renovating a rental. I have been told by metals buyers that the incidence of stolen copper has fallen to undetectable levels. (Oh, undercover operatives will try to get buyers to buy obviously stolen copper. Publication of this had immediate positive effects.) When I take stuff in they look up my account and see how much I’ve brought in and over what period.
The reason we have crime at all is society allows it. When a black man where I worked was murdered and the family started making public accusations of racism the police had suspects in custody within hours by asking the cell tower operators to tell them which phones had been at the murder location between the night before and the probable murder time. They could, if they wanted, use a similar technique to solve probably eighty percent of crimes. But they don’t. They just take reports and compile statistics because the authorities don’t give a flying fart about protecting the public. Unless whatever happened is going to turn political.
Hell just remove all the signs increase the speed limit to 65 and thin the herd.
We are witnessing civilizational collapse in real time. It just gets worse and worse.
I remember thirty or forty years ago when so many of our bronze historical plaques disappeared. They had been erected by civic groups over the previous 75 years. Stolen by thieves for the metal content.
Sounds like a typical 3rd world cesspool. Pure chaos.
Hey, if this works, maybe Newsome can implement state-wide to reduce electricity demand?
“Neighbors said city workers removed the all the traffic lights in the last week and replaced them with four-way stop signs“
Doing this is preferable to putting a few thieves into jail? How may thieves does anyone think there are? We are not an adult society anymore.

The far leftist commie/nazi politicians have destroyed Oakland
once a nice enough city, it has degenerated into an outhouse cespool and it is dangerous to visit, too
Have no idea about the rest of the country but near me about 4 years ago or so I noticed the 4 way stop in my residential section had more and more cars drift right through without stopping if no cars seemed to be around. First one or two and then every day as today.
I had the feeling someone looked around and did it and the others thought “I can get away with it if he can”. I am not singling out any race, nationality or ethnic group in referencing the monkey see, monkey do effect. Everyone but me seems to be doing it now.
So, with the loss of stoplights how can Oakland manage the many t-bone accidents and people mangled or killed in them?
How do you go from a 1st world country to a 3rd world country so fast? DemocRATs.
“fundamental transformation”
We should give this a catchy name like “downteching” and see if we can get it to trend into more and more areas of life.
In the 1990s, I was spending time in Mexico and Central America. With fluent Spanish, I was able to learn more about every day life. One day in Mexico City, two cars collided at a four way intersection. My local friends described how such accidents were ‘settled.’ Of the two drivers, whoever’s family showed up first, then the other driver was at fault. Strength in numbers.
I no longer travel in Mexico, or Oakland.
California has been highly successful in getting homeowner’s insurance carriers to leave the state. I guess they want to replicate their success with auto insurers.
I’ve gotta wonder if criminals were arrested held and put to hard labor while waiting trial and after conviction if it would effect crime rates.
Current copper is $96. It got as high as $269.
I was $62 before the above started.
Used copper prices can’t be that good, so something else is going on. Drug prices went up?
I suspect that contractors who previously bid on the traffic signal maintenance decided not to bid on the current contract as it’s too dangerous and these bankrupt Democrat cities are trying to lowball them on the pricing anyway.
