We already have them here for web based governmental services.
What this bill does is give Australians the option - the option, not the requirement - to have the various forms of ID we all have nowadays - drivers licences and similar - in a digital form. There are definitely valid reasons to be worried about how secure the system will be, but some of you seem to think this is some sort of new universal ID - it’s not. It’s less invasive and intrusive than America’s Social Security Number system - which is something Australia doesn’t have.
