OJ Simpson Lawyer Alan Dershowitz Says He Would Have Represented Victims ‘If They Had Called Me First’

OJ Simpson’s attorney Alan Dershowitz said that he would have represented the alleged victims of the 1994 murder “if they had called me first." Dershowitz made the statement to Fox’s Sean Hannity on Thursday, following the news that Simpson had died from prostate cancer aged 76.

“I want to send my sincerest condolences to the Goldman family, the Brown family. They’ve done a phenomenal job in standing up for their relatives, and if they had called me first before the OJ team called me, I probably would have represented the Goldman or the Brown family,” Dershowitz said, as earlier reported by Mediaite. However, Dershowitz was attributed for rounding out Simpson’s “Dream Team” during the murder trial for the NFL superstar’s ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and Ron Goldman.

Dershowitz told Fox: “I’m very sympathetic with the Goldmans and the Brown family and I wish I could have been on their side, but I wasn’t, and in the end, I think history will remember OJ Simpson as someone who possibly did it, but who the police tried to frame.”

It seems kind of disingenuous. The families of victims usually don't rush out and hire a lawyer.

I don’t want to hang around if you know what I mean. Dershowitz reminds me of his old buddy Jeffrey Epstein.

Dersh is an idiot. They keep trotting this media whore put like he’s some legal genius when all he says is what everyone else with a brain says.

He’s so friggen smart that he voted for Shitlery twice and Biden. Now he “may not vote for Biden” because he withheld weapons from Israel. Dude’s a putz.

Lawyers don’t operate in the realm of conviction. They operate in the realm of who is paying them. If you are being paid by the defense, you will put up the best defense you can. If you are being paid by the prosecution, you will make the best case for the prosecution that you can.

There is no lawyer that will do this. No reputable lawyer in the country will try to do a bad job for his client, because he’s convinced his client is wrong.

We aren’t France, under the Napoleanic system, where the accused has to prove his innocence before a not guilty verdict can be given.

I don’t think anyone is saying he should have done a bad job for his client. If you are hired to defend a murderer, then do it, so be it. But just let it be, don’t try to play both sides.

I can’t speak to his mind, but I interpret what he is saying that he would work for anybody who hires him.

I will agree that, even if what he said is true, he probably shouldn’t have said that. He’s just basically saying that whatever their loss, it was partly their fault for not hiring him. Which is a tasteless thing to say.

That’s the way it works. Lawyers are hired guns who work for the clients who hire them.

Right. But that doesn’t mean you have to take the case in the first place. I do not fault Dershowitz much for defending Simpson. Simpson’s guilt or innocence was up in the air at the time.

But Dershowitz had to know Epstein was a monster from the get-go, and would continue to be a monster.

Do you think that lawyers should only defend someone who is innocent?

Dershowitz got Epstein 13 months in jail, so it’s possible he did the ethical thing and not get him declared not guilty, but rather have him admit guilt and get the least punishment instead.

A man with no principles. That’s this guy. The kind of person God detests. He goes with whatever way the winds are blowing to enrich himself. John the Baptist was no reed in the wind.

I didn’t say that. Consider the Simpson case. Dershowitz couldn’t have known at the start of the trial whether or not Simpson was guilty. Like I noted earlier, I don’t fault Dershowitz much for taking that case.

Now let’s consider a hypothetical bank robber who, for some reason, Dershowitz knows for sure is guilty from the very beginning. I wouldn’t fault Dershowitz for taking that case either.

Then there’s Jeffrey Epstein. He’s a special case because he was a serial rapist of youngsters. No question mark involved. The damage he did, and would continue to do, far exceeds that of Simpson or a bank robber.

Did Epstein deserve a competent defense? Yes. But I have zero respect for anyone who stepped forward to defend him. That’s a serious contradiction, I know. I’m okay with that. A free Epstein was a monster on the loose.
