The family of a 23-year-old US Airman who was fatally shot by a Florida sheriff's deputy retained prominent civil rights attorney Ben Crump.
Roger Fortson was shot and killed inside his apartment on Friday when an Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy responding to a disturbance call "reacted in self-defense after he encountered a 23-year-old man armed with a gun."
"We demand accountability for those responsible for his death," Crump said in an email to Newsweek. "And we stand in solidarity with Roger's family and friends as they navigate this unimaginable loss."

Except when you watch the body cam video the officer clearly and repeatedly identified himself while knocking on the door in BROAD DAYLIGHT and telling the subject to open the door. The cop did not cover the peephole of the apartment door, as his chief pointed out.
Right now the sheriff department is standing by their officer as the state investigates. Meanwhile grifter Crump plays the race card and fake news goes along because a black "airman" (he was in the service --which means he should know how to properly respond to authority) with a "legally owned gun" got shot.
Police were called to the apartment complex because of a disturbance.
It’s a truly unfortunate set of circumstances. I’ve seen the bodycam video and it’s unfortunate. But it’s not malicious. The property manager took the cop to the wrong apartment. But the victim answered the door with a gun in his hand after the cop knocked and identifed himself as the police. And now they have that vulture Ben Crump grifting his way through the tragedy. A bad situation made worse by greedy assholes hoping to cash in on others tragedy.

However, the family hired the filthiest, most despicable, race pimp alive to represent them. As a result...if I was a juror in the civil trial I wouldn't vote to award them a single dime.
Hang on...the cops identified themselves? I read that that wasn’t the case.
Ben Crump head looks like a Milk Dud.
By all accounts an upstanding airman was killed for the crime of the police going to the wrong apartment. There has been so much of this kind of stuff that it is utterly negligent of police departments not to have procedures to ensure they are going to the right place. And this airman did not deserve to die for this.
Watch the body cam video. Cop ids himself at least twice.
Upstanding black man... killed by cops ... in his own home.. in Florida.
... just as the spring protest season wraps up, and the summer protest season needs a theme.
Almost as if this whole event was scheduled.
Interjected hezs self no doubth.
Yikes! Well, that would seem to indicate that the kid might have made a mistake...a big mistake. However,I’m not sure how I would have handled myself in a similar situation. It certainly would have been a shock for anyone to hear *anyone* banging on his door at 4PM.
If it was my case, I would sue the apartment complex too.
In that manner, George Zimmerman had to defend himself from murder charges and win acquittal on the facts -- that he was attacked without cause, knocked down and beaten by a young black wannabe thug, whom Zimmerman then fatally shot in a desperate act of self-defense. Meanwhile, Crump collected a hefty settlement from the homeowners' association and their insurer.
Ben Crump does occasionally generate unintended comedy, as when he was paid by a TV cable show to investigate the murder of Tupac Shakur by interviewing peripheral witnesses and treating their well-worn accounts as some sort of revelation. The greatest mystery of thug life rapper Tupac Shakur's death was why it did not happen sooner instead of as a casual gang beef in Las Vegas.
Keep Crump *spit* in Florida. We don’t need him here in Ohio

“Sharpton announced that Tyson’s family has asked him and civil rights attorney Ben Crump to be at the funeral on Wednesday. Crump is representing Tyson’s family and is expected to issue a call to justice during the services”
(Another “I can’t breathe” jogger overdose. Enough!)
Just watched the video...when the cop says “drop the gun” he says “I don’t have it”. Was there a gun?
Yah,if the cops were directed to the wrong apartment that would be a huge issue.
He has the gun in his hand, down by his side. He didn’t make a move with it. He was probably thinking it was a home invasion. Not a good shoot. And no, you really don’t get to just shoot because the guy answers the door armed. This is a bad as those two female cops in Houston who mag dumped on that woman answering her door.
The mere sight of a gun doesn’t make it a free fire zone.
Knocked, identified and DID NOT block the peephole.

And why do you have Airman in ironic quotes? Was he in the Air Force or not?
He was standing to the side. Home invaders never lie or use a ruse. He didn’t raise it, point it or anything. He did not act aggressive. The gun was being held down at his side. The cop blazed away instantly without warning, then started yelling “drop the gun”.
