House blocks Greene’s resolution to oust Johnson
The Hill ^ | 05/08/24 5:49 PM ET | BY MYCHAEL SCHNELL

The House on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to protect Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) from a conservative coup, torpedoing an effort by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to oust the GOP leader from the top job.

The chamber voted 359-43-7 on a motion to table Greene’s motion to vacate, preventing the removal resolution from hitting the floor for a vote.

The final vote — which was widely expected amid bipartisan opposition to the ouster gambit — deals a major blow to Greene, who filed her measure more than a month ago and had threatened to trigger it ever since.

It means Johnson, who won the gavel in October following the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), will remain in the top job. But the vote puts him in the precarious position of being a GOP Speaker propped up by Democrats, which could earn him the ire of conservatives.

In brief remarks delivered shortly after Wednesday’s vote, Johnson thanked his colleagues for their support.

“I appreciate the show of confidence from my colleagues to defeat this misguided effort,” he said. “That is certainly what it was.”

Yeah, and when 210 Republicans voted in favor of Kevin McCarthy, while just eight Republicans joined 208 Democrats in ousting him, people on this website cheered.

Marjorie Taylor Greene has a bird brain. Her unintelligent behavior and solo kamikaze moves is hurting our image and is hurting Trump’s chances for reelection in November.

What she does is at times so unintelligent and crazy I start to wonder if she isn’t a trojan horse planted into our ranks in order to make us look crazy all the time.

With such so called “republican” Trump doesn’t need enemies!
She has become a liability for Trump, she is sabotaging his chances.

No wonder Trump has rebuked her, AGAIN!

Well said.
What happened was shameful.
The act of eating our own, a political form of cannibalism, made us look like crazy and utterly unreliable.

"Marjorie Taylor Greene has a bird brain."

Coming from a pea-brain, that's actually a compliment to MTG.

The U.S. is the laughing stock of the world, but it isn't because of Congresswoman Greene's actions. It's because our borders are being overrun with illegals, we have a usurper in the White House, our elections are stolen, our economy is being destroyed by war mongers like you who follow Joe Biden lockstep, and think that by continually throwing unaccounted-for billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine, to support another proxy war with Russia, that it's the answer to the world's problems. We've been fighting proxy wars with Russia and China for the past 71 years, and nothing has been solved by any of them. Don't you think the insanity needs to stop?

"196 Republicans voted in favour of tabling Greene’s motion to vacate. 11 Republicans voted against. This was a major smackdown of Greene and her supporters."

What it shows is that 196 Repukes sided with RATS and are stabbing their constituents in the back. Those 196, likely voted to keep FISA too. That's not saying much about their character, loyalty, patriotism, or trustworthiness.

Hardly a Rebuke. They’re probably working together. I’ll step in to unify the party. The legit chance to shske things up was 2017. They knew it sns destroyed thst glorious opportunity. I don’t think Trump is the bull in the China shop any longer. He’s playing it cautious because he wants to win. I guess he gets more leeway than most from me because his life seems to literally be on the line.

I laugh each year where FReepers time and again bash a real conservative and queue the same song and dance, “now is not a good time”, “hold your nose and vote R down the line”, “if we don’t vote R down the line it’s the end of civilization.” Time and time again we are told the same thing over and over again and yet here we are back at square one; hold your nose and keep voting RINO. The same will be said the next year, the year after and 20 beyond. Hold your noses you loyal dunces! The end of the world is afoot!

“It’s because our borders are being overrun with illegals”

Answer:
Only Trump did an ok job on that even though he didn’t get the time needed to accomplish it all. He will win in November. It will be Americas LAST, LAST, chance to fix the illegal immigration problem. If Trump doesn’t succeed next year, I consider the issue uncourtly doomed.

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

“...our elections are stolen...”

Answer:
Indeed something went wrong in the last election, but that will only make Trump win easy in November. It got him 4 years of pause in-between two elections, greatly preparing him for the job. So no harms done. And since Trump can’t be reelected a third time, he will have full power to Govern the very way HE wants. Let’s just hope we keep the House, and get the Senate back.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“...our economy is being destroyed by war mongers like you who follow Joe Biden lockstep, and think that by continually throwing unaccounted-for billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine, to support another proxy war with Russia, that it’s the answer to the world’s problems.”

Answer:
I’m not a warmonger. What Biden did for Ukraine was initiated by Trump. Remember?
Trump was the toughest on Russia. He sent shiploads of high-tech US weaponry to Ukraine, Expelled 60 Russian diplomats from America, condemned Russia’s annexation of Crimea, levelled a Russian airbase in Syrian with 59 Tomahawk missiles, massacred 300 Russian soldiers in Syria, impose massive sanctions on Russia. And even threatened Putin of the annihilation of Moscow in his quest to protect Ukraine. Trump is the initiator in chief of the whole process in helping Ukraine.
Biden and Europe had no other choice than to continue what Trump started.

Trump is staunchly opposed to the idea of letting China take Taiwan, letting Hamas win in Israel and letting the neo- soviets in Russia take over our ally Ukraine which we have TWO big international agreements with: one from 1994 the other from 2008.
I’m supporting Trump’s policies and what he has done against Russia and for Ukraine / 100%. Does that make me a warmonger? For supporting Trump’s policies?

We can’t let the Hamas-Russia-Iran-China-North Korea-China Alliance take over Taiwan, Ukraine, Israel. THAT would be VERY costly for America if they succeeded.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

“...can’t support another proxy war with Russia...”

Answer:
Russia is the one who started the proxy war against the USA, it’s not the other way around. We are just responding to the aggression. Russia initiated the whole mess. They can end the war NOW, by respecting the rule of international law, and bring their invaders from Ukraine back to Moscow.

Trump is also the one who started the economic war with China! Smart move by Trump.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Answer:
“Don’t you think the insanity needs to stop?”

Yes indeed. I think it must stop.
Only LAW AND ORDER can do that!

If we would let the Neo Soviets in Russia, the commies in China and the Islamists in IRAN gobble up our allies... its like letting criminals attack and rape our unarmed US citizens in America while telling our police: “don’t intervene! It’s the US citizens problem, let them handle the criminals themselves!” That would be utterly wrong. Right?

The thing is I’m talking like a true pacifist.
Your appeasement of unlawful acts is actually pushing for more wars!

“So, Democrats supported and own Johnson. Nice to know what’s been obvious.”

More Republicans voted in support of Johnson then did Democrats. Lacking support from Republicans, Greene’s only chance of removing Johnson as Speaker was to ally with Democrats but their wasn’t enough of them that were willing to join her

"What Biden did for Ukraine was initiated by Trump. Remember?"

President Trump approved a $39 million sale of anti-tank weapons. He didn't send billions of unaccounted-for tax dollars to pay Ukraine's government employees their salaries, or pensions. If you're going to make a claim, at least get it right.

You'll never get me to change my mind regarding the waste of tax payer dollars fighting proxy wars against Russia, China or Iran.

We've been engaged in proxy wars since The Korean War. This country is not equipped, nor could it fight and supply a prolonged war against Russia, China, or Iran...or all three together. What we did in WWII with the production of war machinery could never be reproduced to that level in this country today. Russia is already far ahead of us when it comes to the production of war machinery.

We have a corrupt and compromised government, a weakened economy, a weakened gas reserve, a weakened infrastructure, a weakened energy grid, a weakened military and a weakened defense inventory. We can't even defend our own borders, so we are engaged in an ongoing war within our own country against illegals who are the beneficiaries of even more of our hard earned tax dollars. And we're fighting a war for our Constitutional rights every day, right here.

Pardon me, but I'd prefer fighting to save the Republic I live in first, rather than blowing a wad on some spit of land 5,000 miles away that is of no national security interest to our survival. I don't give a crap about Russia or Taiwan. I do care about Israel, but I don't believe we should be sending money or troops to any foreign country, not when our own country is deeply in debt, and people here are struggling to put food on the table. No one should be in the predicament that the only way to survive paycheck to paycheck, is to rely on credit cards to make ends meet.

Who from Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, or any of the other countries we send money to, or the NATO members countries...which of them would come here to fight if we were attacked? And don't say it could never happen. Germany won't even put up the 2% that NATO requires for their own defense. If NATO can't get member nations to do even that, then what good are they to us or any of the other member nations for that matter?

What makes you a war monger is that you support sending unaccounted-for money to Ukraine to fight this proxy war with Russia. You are supporting other war mongers like Lindsey Graham, and Joe Biden, as well as all of the investors in the military industrial complex, not only here, but in Ukraine, and Russia, and other countries because foreign oligarchs that invest in the military industrial complex are getting richer too, as long as this war continues. I also find it hard to believe that someone would support the foreign policies of a political usurper who left billions of dollars in military equipment in Afghanistan, and killed 13 U.S. Marines to boot.

Johnson pretty much saw to it that the disastrous Senate bill that addressed (yeah, right) border security did not advance. Put to a fair vote, it would have narrowly passed the House.

IMO, since Biden will not execute it as intended anyway, I don’t think even a “MAGA” border bill is anything but a negative until soon after Trump is back in office. All such a bill would do now, assuming it somehow passes the Senate and is signed, is diminish the border as an issue in some voters’ minds.

The question really is how are the Republican and Independent voters lined up / will be lined up?

FReepers tend to miss the "baseline" questions. And they tend to think most Trump supporters think like them. Big mistakes.
