GOD said that anyone who harms a child, it would be better to tie a millstone around your neck and jump in the ocean. How about, just jumping in with the millstone BEFORE you destroy a life. However, both will be gone in January.
Additionally, they have provided cover for other Dem Senators who might be opposed. It has always been understood that such a thing eases policy in either direction. A GOP majority with no filibuster obstruction could do many things the left would violently oppose. That reality has held the filibuster rule in place for a long time.
