The church, grocery store, Critics Ice Cream Shop, saloon, restaurant and the school was 5 minutes away. Also, pizza shop, bowling hall. A small plaza opened about 1950....with A&P, Meat market, Kresge's. Dad picked well!!

For retail, you hopped a bus and went downtown.

Yep - in late 50s, there was a plaza 1/2 mile down the street that had a Kresge’s and a Woolworths along with groceries and other stores - the church (and dentist) was less than a quarter mile and the hospital less than 3/4 mile - and, best of all, we knew all the yards with fruit trees, etc...we had our pick of mulberries, cherries, apples, peaches, pears, apricots, grapes, and, as long as we left the gardens alone, most folks didn’t mind us going through for our “snack raids”....
