The dying days of the Russian Federation? Vladimir Putin's empire could follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union
Financial Post (Canada) ^ | 16 April 2024 | Diane Francis

The Soviet-Afghan War destroyed Afghanistan and eventually the Soviet Union, which dissolved in 1991 into 15 republics. Numerous satellite states in Europe were liberated at the same time.

History may repeat as the Russia-Ukraine war weakens Moscow, financially and geopolitically. Russia’s 2022 invasion was about reoccupying a former colony, Ukraine, but there are other Russian republics that hope to become liberated...

… in December 1991, Ukrainians voted for independence and Ukraine became the first of the Soviet republics to leave. The Baltic republics followed, as did Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and others. Now there is unrest across the Russian Federation…

… a story in the Moscow Times in February:

“Russian indigenous and minority activists have long warned that the Kremlin is banking on using the country’s non-Slavic population as cannon fodder in its protracted quest for capturing Ukrainian territories.”

Chess master and political activist Garry Kasparov predicted the war will result in the collapse of the Russian Federation.

“I’m pretty sure that within the next five years, Russia will end up smaller,” said Kasparov, who predicted that the republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Chechnya “very likely will walk away.”

This is a Canadian newspaper and may have informal connections with Canadian intelligence, similar to the ties between the British press and MI-6 and the American MSM with the CIA. That the author is a member of the Atlantic Council, a globalist organization, indicates his affiliation with one world government and the Great Reset. This article reads like the usual line that Russia is failing and will fall any time soon.

There is no motivation for the Chinese to claim some Northeast Asian territory from Russia. China benefits from the oil and natural gas resources of Siberia without directly controlling the region. The post-Soviet era has seen Chinese expansion into the "stans" of Central Asia, which had been ruled by China during the Qing dynasty. Thus the CCP has already accomplished expansion into what had been Tsarist and Soviet territory without firing a shot.

A defeat and breakup of Russia into smaller countries controlled by Western financial interests would leave China isolated and vulnerable to Western subversion, China had experience with humiliation by the West and does not want a second round. The CCP has been the primary source of fentanyl, which has caused the death of many thousands of Americans. The CCP may see this as payback for the Western powers forcing opium upon their country. In any case, China has been the primary market for Russian oil and natural gas. China and North Korea, which exists under the sufferance of Beijing, has been providing military aid to Russia in their war against Ukraine. China and Russia have engaged in joint military activities, including jointly trolling the US off the Alaska coast. Both nations have supported Iran and Communist regimes in Latin America and elsewhere. Chinese and Russian interests have been pushing French and American interests in various parts of Africa.

Chinese Russian cooperation well predates the Western sanctions. In a sense, the Cold War never really ended and the Eastern bloc and its Muslim allies have expanded their global reach while the Western democracies are deindustrializing, importing millions of unassimilable immigrants, and obsessing over climate change and sexual degeneracy.

They roll this crap out in response to Brics announcing a Gold backed digital currency. Brics member countries have 3.3b population at present, and so many others are pending approval.

The West is committed to stealing Russian frozen funds, and most of the world is running like hell from US economic orbit as credibility is destroyed for short term political gains.

Russia is not simply oil based. They have 1/7th of the world land mass. They have more mineral weath and sheer potential that the US which is becoming a communist hellhole.

“Russia will NOT collapse, because some one wants them to.”

Neither would the larger and stronger Soviet Union.

Russia will collapse if it no longer has enough money and power to hold its oppressed minorities in thrall, and keep its hungry neighbors at bay.

Putin is burning through Russia’s financial reserves and old Soviet military gear at breakneck speed. When they are gone, it will be a very different world for Russia to push people around - and those it has been pushing around will be able to push back.

China is rapidly scooping up Russia’s economy, without firing a shot. They have already reclaimed the first piece of territory from Russia last year (the unpopulated Bolshoi Ussursky Island in Russia’s Amur region). Little brother Pootie Poot had to just suck that up.

“ Multiple explosions across Crimea in recent hours.”
*********************************************
Jeez, if only those explosions could be strategically placed along the actual front where the actual fighting is ongoing. Of course that (actually supporting Ukrainian forces fighting on the ground) wouldn’t have the same propaganda value. Again, just sayin’.

One observes the language in this "news" which is a speculative opinion piece.

"Diane Francis: The dying days of the Russian Federation? Vladimir Putin's empire could follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union"

The first statement ends with a question mark, not a period. The second uses the modal "could" rather than the clearer "will," and as such the extended title begins with its own wiggle words.

Such is the language of "news" which reports a writer's opinion.

By contrast, Francis could have written: "Russia is dying. Vladimir Putin's empire will follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union"

She did not. Wiggle words. They're what's for "dinner." Time will tell.

Russia had a smaller GDP than Italy, before it became the most heavily sanctioned country on Earth, for its latest invasion. Smaller than the GDP of Texas or California.

“How’s the Sea of Azov doing, by the way - your buddies make it there yet?”

Yes, they have sunken Russian ships and destroyed Russian aircraft, including their A-50 AWACS equivalent. There have been multiple strikes on Russian bases around the Sea of Azov, inside of Russia.

Here’s a dose of reality:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZFASabDMjo&ab_channel=DWNews

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, said: “The situation on the front has worsened…The enemy has concentrated its main efforts on several areas, creating a significant advantage in forces and resources. The enemy is actively attacking along the entire front line, and making tactical gains in some areas…”

Look up the GDP yourself.

Face the facts.

Russia has a smaller GDP than Italy (or Germany, or France, or Japan, or the UK; who are all supporting Ukraine).

Unlike Italy, Russia does not make nice things, that other people want to buy. They mostly do hydrocarbon and mineral extraction, and raise grain. The rest of their production is crap, including their weapons.

LOL, I think the M1’s were supposed to be the SPEARHEAD to the Sea of Azov, rather than a few pin-pricks. What happened to that (hint: doink)? Anyway, looks like a good deal for Russia, a few pin-pricks in exchange for Crimea, Donbass, and lots more.

Breaking today:

ROME — Britain’s defense minister has stated that Italy has sent Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine.

Russian forces have no effective defense against those superior Western weapons (even though like the F-16s, they are mostly obsolete gear being replaced by far better stuff in the more advanced and richer West). They pretty much destroy whatever the Ukrainians decide to target with them. I guess they will be providing the fireworks for this year’s Victory Day festivities, even if Moscow had to cancel the “immortal” parade.

I’ll probably never forget that video of Storm Shadows streaking in and destroying Russia’s Black Sea Fleet Headquarters.

How Admiral Sokolov Doing?
