I dodged a bullet years ago in my younger days when I applied for citizenship to SA and was approved. I had all the skills they were looking for plus military experience , I was all in as I was totally immersed in African culture and history since I was a teenager. I had read all books on Africa that I could from Stanley and Livingston ,Alan Moreheads Blue Nile / White Nile to Jean Pierre Hallette book “Congo Kitubu”. I was packed and ready to go and then I met my future wife at my departure party. It turned out to be my stay home party as we got along so well we did not want to leave each other and she did not want to go to SA. Turned out to be a good decision looking back on it.

About 28 years ago I was living in an apartment complex in Houston, Texas that was filled with South African expats. The whites were fleeing SA in droves at that time.
