Many of the Lahaina wildfire survivors who were placed in temporary housing at hotels are now living in tents on local parks, beaches, and parking lots, eight months after the deadly blaze ..
Locals complained .. that little is being done to help displaced residents find rental homes, while 70% of the town's rental units are operating as Airbnbs for tourists..
Lahaina resident Benny Reinicke, 30, .. it's 'insulting' that FEMA is offering families cash to relocate elsewhere and says the agency should focus on rebuilding homes in the town itself..
It's an incongruous sight.
On one side, there's glorious golden sand and gleaming blue water, with rows of palm trees lining a strip of luxury hotels, complete with tiki bars and silver service restaurants.
But on the edge of Kāʻanapali Beach, a shabby row of tents has sprung up: their occupants largely ignored by the bikini-clad tourists strolling by...
many of those tents are occupied by survivors of the Lahaina wildfire that ripped through the small Maui town last August, claiming at least 101 lives – making it the worst natural disaster in Hawaiian history.
Most of the tent owners lost everything they owned in the blaze, and have ended up living on the beach after being kicked out of the temporary hotel housing they were given in the immediate aftermath of the fire.

Fire victim is Kailani Koa, 64, who works at Kahului airport, has ended up living in a tent in the parking lot of Hanakao'o Park after losing her home and most of her possessions in the blaze.
...
Kailani says she has begged Lahaina mayor Richard Bissen for help to no avail and called on Hawaii Governor Josh Green to come to the town and witness her plight.

Some were found living in East Palestine, Ohio and some are living in the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. That’s why you haven’t heard anything.
A lot of the older houses had no insulation. No heat. No AC. Corrugated metal roofs.
Meanwhile, states like FL, TX, SC, ID, AZ are all gaining population.
Hawaii is 100% one party rule. Democrats. There is not any chance of the Dems losing control of HI.
Maybe the businesses in Maui that employ these people need to build a dormitory for them to live in. This is what a lot of resorts here in New England have to do. Then they bring in kids from other places on work visas to change the sheets and run the ski lifts.
Fly to Mexico, walk across the border, get a new ID, get a ticket to Mauai, move back to Lahaina, demand FEMA builds new houses for you as an illegal alien, profit.
Sorry Lahaina. You have proven constant votes for democrats and will still vote for democrats. Even if you don’t, the rest of your state will. Democrats don’t care about you. You are not a “new American.” You are a taxpayer to be exploited to import Biden’s new illegal alien army.
They will still vote Democrat.
Hawaii is so Blue they can't connect the dots.
Yet..what pisses me off...is we are sending MILLIONS of dollars to other countries. And these folks in HI...got $700 bucks.
And we have uncontrollable ILLEGAL immigration.
This ain't the Country I grew up in..anymore.
My guess is that is the plan.........I'm sure Barry Sotero is behind a lot of this.
Waiting for The Oprah and her millionaire buddies to swoop in and save the day. Oh, wait — maybe they won’t be there to help the locals but to buy up the land to build more mega-houses. Just wondering.
living in a tent in the parking lot of Hanakao’o Park after losing her home and most of her possessions in the blaze.

Can she pitch her tent on the site of her burned home?
The Uberborg doesn’t want those people to be resettled there; that burnout was to clear a space for worldgov’s SmartCity.
