10 senators helped advance Ukraine aid after voting against it

Nine Republicans and one Democrat in the Senate voted Tuesday to advance a package that includes aid for Ukraine and Israel, after opposing the legislation in a vote earlier this year.

The package advanced toward a final vote Tuesday in an 80-19 procedural vote. Overall, 31 Republicans voted to advance the package.

The package includes $61 billion for Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel and global humanitarian assistance and $8 billion for allies in the Indo-Pacific. It also includes a series of national security items, headlined by a potential ban of the social media giant TikTok, or at least a forced divestment.

The nine Republicans who shifted their stance were: Sens. Katie Britt (Ala.), Tom Cotton (Ark.), Deb Fischer (Neb.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.), James Lankford (Okla.), Markwayne Mullin (Okla.), Pete Ricketts (Neb.) and Tim Scott (S.C.).

All nine in February had voted against advancing the legislation. They also voted “no” on that earlier bill’s final passage.

All nine in February had voted against advancing the legislation.

The Senate bill was killed because of the hugely unpopular section about the border. Republicans were getting crucified over the "5,000 illegals per day" allowance in the bill.

The usual idiots. And good old Katie Britt who everybody was salivating over after SOTU.

And the majority of the bill had nothing to do with securing the border. Most of the money was dedicated towards settling the ones that already came across.

The February bill included an illegal alien amnesty dreamed up by James Lankford, so they voted against it.

Absolutely, it was essentially a poison pill for Republicans, and was rightly defeated. The whole idea of giving the Biden administration money to enforce the border is a joke. No matter what limits our side might put on these funds, Mayorkas would just use the money to fund more illegals. We have plenty of laws to control immigration, and money appropriated for the task. The only way you are going to control the border is to have an administration that wants the border controlled. That would be a Trump administration.

Because this was all a sham, theater. There was never any real chance this was not going to happen.

My opinion of course. Our congress is more venal and corrupt than all but the most hardened cynics (yours truly) believe.

I personally believe that the myriad of US intelligence agencies practically own a large portion of congress. They haven’t just been spying on you and me.
