Marjorie Taylor Greene calls on Johnson to resign after foreign aid bills pass: ‘If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated’

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Sunday said House Speaker Mike Johnson “betrayed” Republican voters after the House approved new aid to Ukraine, threatening to call a vote for his ouster if he doesn’t resign.

“Mike Johnson’s speakership is over. He needs to do the right thing to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated,” Greene said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

After months of resisting putting a foreign aid bill on the House floor, Johnson joined with Democrats on Saturday to advance a $95 billion foreign aid package, which contains $61 billion for Ukraine and regional partners. The legislation – which passed with the support of 210 Democrats and 101 Republicans – now heads to the Senate, which is expected to give final approval this week.

Should Greene and her supporters make good on their threat to force a vote on ousting him as speaker, Johnson will almost certainly need to rely on Democrats to bail him out.

The Georgia hardliner is one of at least three Republicans who have said they will support a move to oust Johnson — whose majority is so slim he cannot afford to lose any Republicans on a party-line vote.

I agree. Many here are calling her an idiot.

I just wish we had about 220 more idiots just like her!

Can China and/or Russia just launch on DC and put us out of our misery? It’s obvious the people can’t (or won’t) fix the country. If not that, God needs to reboot the planet. And soon. The last four years were just child’s play for what is coming in Brandon’s second term.

I’m not against some funding of Ukraine, but not without some help at our own border first, just as Johnson publicly promised over 20+ times.

And the fact he brought a bill to the floor for a vote that had less than 50% Republican support, should be his suicide bomb, else he will just do it again.

You’re acting like Johnson pushes bills to a floor vote against the will of Republicans in the House. That’s simply not true. All posturing aside, like this Ukraine welfare bill for white people has the support of at least 85% of House Republicans. In fact this stupid bill they just passed looks like something that would have passed with unanimous GOP support in 2004.

What strategic value. They have zero strategic value for us none. Other than the graft they can funnel to house representatives.

Look, you can’t understand Williams until you understand he’s a Neo-Con. The whole world is viewed through the lens of either owning it outright or having puppet-governments in place that insure trade deals favorable to the US. You may frequently hear the term “US interests” used. That’s just code for imperialism (whether direct or indirect).

Ask yourself this: Is there any nation on Earth that has had such a ubiquitous presence all over the planet as a Neo-Con lead USA? I defy you to come up with one.

How about we get enough MAGA representatives elected so we can get a decent speaker who knows how to wield power to make sure republicans stick together.

They need to work that out in conference, privately if possible. But those discussions should start immediately. It probably can’t be a hard right person as they can’t get the votes. It just can’t be someone who brings something to the floor knowing it will get more D votes than R as Johnson just did. That was outrageous and will be done by him again if allowed to stand.

He just did. From what I remember when watching the vote, it was 112 Republicans against, 102 for. It is rightfully considered outrageous for a Speaker to bring a vote to the floor he knows in advance the majority of his party will vote against.

You will never get to 215 with only a 1 vote margin. That’s what Matt Gaetz keeps trying to tell us. As much as I like Matt, he should have had the votes lined up for the next speaker BEFORE they ousted McCarthy.

We have to learn how to be more strategic. You don’t go into battle without a plan.

Huh? Trump is supporting Johnson, which appears to be the main reason some Freepers still do. And MTG is MAGA she’s just not standing down like Trump asked.. Forget parties, or even factions within parties. Johnson has proven beyond a doubt he can’t be trusted. That is what should count.

I don’t think Johnson could have stopped the Ukraine bill. Dems and Rs who wanted it would have signed a discharge petition to force a vote. Is Johnson on the wrong side? Is he betraying us for personal gain? I don’t know, but I know I don’t like some parts of the Ukraine bill.

LOL. You really are naive. You still haven’t figured out how D.C. and these national political parties work?

How many of those “against” Republicans would have voted against the bill if their vote actually mattered?

Look no further than that insufferable dope Thomas Massie. This is the guy who walks around with a "national debt clock," and who has made a career out of railing against bloated Federal budgets and unconstitutional spending. And yet when the time came for him to actually cast a decisive House committee vote on the matter in the spring of 2023, he was right there supporting the Biden-McCarthy measure to raise the U.S. debt ceiling.

So in January you elect a new speaker. Congress will be out of session for the summer soon, then the election.

They should try to do it in conference if they can. But if not, they won’t leave the House shut down forever. And no one could be any worse than Johnson has already been.

That’s what Matt Gaetz keeps trying to tell us. As much as I like Matt, he should have had the votes lined up for the next speaker BEFORE they ousted McCarthy.

I agree this whole fiasco is mostly his fault. And I don’t really trust him at this point, as he may be compromised over that scandal, sadly.

Kevin McCarthy had to go. He was making deals with the Democrats.

I’m glad McCarthy is gone, he was a snake. I don’t think Johnson is a snake, he’s just stupid. The house will adjourn soon for summer, nothing is going to be accomplished at this point. But they do need to figure out who should be leader in January.

I concur. The private club in D.C. doesn't much care for those from the private sector like Trump, Marjorie Taylor Green, Kari Lake, etc...They much prefer lawyers turned lifer government politicians. We've had a conga line of lawyers forever...They've created a s**t show, a broke, borderless, lawless bankrupt country, in debt for the next 10 generations.
