Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson Declares His Support for Ranked Choice Voting
Independent Voter News ^ | 4/19/24 | Shawn Griffiths

In a recent episode of The Purple Principle, a podcast that examines democracy and polarization from a nonpartisan lens, former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson said that while he was skeptical of ranked choice voting at first, he now sees it as a meaningful solution to elect candidates with the broadest appeal.

"I resisted ranked choice and different initiatives that would weaken the two political parties," he said. "Now I don't see it as weakening the parties as much as forcing the candidates to say, 'We've got to appeal to a broad swath of the American electorate."

Many voters may not know or remember that Hutchinson ran for the GOP presidential nomination in the 2024 cycle. His candidacy flew under the radar as the media covered Trump's legal issues or other candidates subject to controversy for their own reasons, like Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Whatever the media thought was best for ratings.

Hutchinson had one of the larger political resumes among the field of a dozen Republicans who ran for their party's nomination:

He served in Congress for a brief period from 1997 to 2001. He was the head of the DEA under President George W. Bush, served as undersecretary of Homeland Security for Border and Transporation Security, and, of course, he was governor of Arkansas.

In Alaska and Maine, currently the only states that will use
ranked choice voting next year in 2024, even if there’s a
third-party challenger, Otis says voters will be able to just
vote for who they want to be president, without trying to
game the system.

Asa has endorsed RCV, the practice that have us a Democrat rep in Alaska and gave swamp creature Lisa MurkyCOWski another term in the Senate.

Tells you all you need to know: reject ranked choice voting.

Also, we need to work on repealing the “national popular vote” laws in states that have so stupidly passed them.

Why, oh why, are these supposed GOP folk supporting a horrible system like ranked choice. It is so apparent to learned folks that it is a way around the system set up by this nation’s founders, and therefore a way to get folks elected who are nothing but deep state operatives.

All nine of the voters that supported his presidential bid have been waiting with bated breath to hear his position on this.

Ranked choice voting is a euphemism for vote-splitting any potential genuine GOPer out of the running.

(In fact, it's right up there with Losertarians' campaigns, vote-spitting-wise.)

Most folks know this, however for many, and sadly so, it's hindsight for having been fooled by the oddly-named "Democratic" vote thieving flim-flam artists.

New York City has returned to the decay that characterized the 1960s through the 1980s, but even worse. RCV is a way to prevent the possibility that a future version of Rudy Giuliani does not come into office and clean up the city. Without a return to effective law enforcement and a restraint on liberal lunacy, New York City will become Detroit on the Atlantic.
