So, if I am in Uptown, I can carry, but I would not be able to drive over the GNO or to Chalmette?

I forget... is Calliope the boundary between Uptown and the Garden District? Well, no matter - they did draw a neat box around the area that is causing concern, in terms of tourism.

No gun-free zone in New Orleans East? Well, I guess that might be a bridge too far.

It's been a while since I checked the Revised Statutes, but I remember something about Louisiana treating vehicles like extensions of the owner's residence. If you could legally have a firearm at home, in the car was also good.

When I was a very young teen, my cousin, two upper-crust Catholic school girls, and I “borrowed” my uncle’s car at 2:00 a.m. and broke down in the middle of those projects.

I wasn’t scared of the gunshots or my dad; I was scared of the Catholic school girl’s old man. He had the power to get me kicked out of school, and could order my murder as easily as he could order a cup of coffee.

We were told by a local street corner pharmacist that the area is so rough that cops don’t go there, and the most violent drug dealers avoid it.

He took us back to his apartment, his grandmother fed us, and the “pharmacist” had an associate repair the car, and we got the girls back to that Garden District home around 15 minutes before her dad woke up.
