Maine Senate Democrats wrapped up their legislative session by passing gun controls in response to the October 25, 2023, Lewiston shooting, but the controls they passed would not have prevented the attack.
Breitbart News reported FOX News’s observation that the Lewiston attacker used a sniper rifle which he had “legally” purchased.
The New York Post likewise pointed out that police noted the attacker “legally purchased a sniper rifle with .308 caliber bullets, the weapons [sic] believed to have been used in the attack.”

“ legally purchased a sniper rifle with .308 caliber bullets‘ - that would describe most deer hunting rifles. .308 or 30-06.
At least we’re not any safer.
It’s shredding the second amendment a little at a time. Every mass shooting provides the excuse to take more guns away from the non-violent people.
It is not about stopping any gun violence, in schools or anywhere else.
When I was growing up, Maine was loaded with U.S. males who all had served in WWII and when they weren’t bustin’ their asses working, they were out hunting. Everyone had a gun. Now, the typical Maine male is a manbun boy or a boy whose head full of cornrows looks like it exploded.
.308 caliber? A .308 rifle cartridge will NOT work in and AR 15 platform. Case is too long. But it might have been a 300 AAC blackout rifle, which is a modified .223 brass. The neck of the brass is sized for 30 caliber. It is a short range weapon. Or it might have been 7.62x39 (again 30 caliber) (ammo used in AK rifles), that is much less likely.
One of the two congressional districts is
red and I think Bangor is a part of it,
which must greatly upset Stephen King.
(He stopped publishing his short novel Rage—by pseudonym Richard Bachman—after a
couple school shooting incidents)
They have been for a long time. Case in point: Susan Collins.
Besides, gun control to Dems is not about preventing mass shootings. It's about gun owner control.
Every “gun bill” is feel good crap...
Note: 300 Blackout has a short effective range, the rifle in the photo had a very short barrel. That type of rifle will have an effective range of 100-150 yards. It is NOT a sniper rifle.
Idiots write the News articles. Clueless.
If Maine is so blue why did Deep State shove RCV down its throat, hmmm...?
See my reply #13.
BTW, Maine has RCV for the same reason Alaska and now NYC do.
Blue, my glutes.
I don't see it described, in this story.
That said, an AR10 is an AR platform and comes in .308.
That said, again, any deer rifle with a scope is a "sniper" rifle, to the left.
Maine will soon cut down on drunk driving by refusing to issue driver’s licensees to non drinkers

Only on the coast, and only in some towns- many are still hardcore conservative-s but liberals have taken over the cities where most of the votes come from
There are photo’s of the rifle, it is a very short barrel AR platform.
Almost certainly 300 Blackout. They don’t require a long barrel to optimum ballistics. But they are in fact 30 caliber bullets. Shot from a .223 or 5.56x45 cartridge.
The photo of the weapon was certainly NOT and AR10 platform.
Link to NY Post from the source article, has photo of the rifle.

Clearly very short light weapon. Most 300 Blackout are short barreled, and very short range.
Certainly not a Sniper Rifle.
There is this rifle called the Revolution that is supposedly a .308 in an AR platform: https://pof-usa.com/
