You Know Who Isn't Complaining About Caitlin Clark's Salary? Caitlin Clark.
PJ Media ^ | 17 Apr 2024 | Stehen Kurier17 Apr 2024

There has been quite the brouhaha these past few days since women's basketball phenom Caitlin Clark was picked first in the WNBA draft, and it was announced that her annual salary for her rookie season would be $76,535. The shrieking harridans of the "GENDER PAAAAAAAY GAP!!!!!!" squad were immediately deployed, and they haven't yet stopped shouting.

As it is with all loud leftist outrages, facts, economics, and the general steely coldness of reality never enter into the conversation. Chief among those facts is that the $76,535 rookie salary is a set amount under the WNBA's salary structure and was known well ahead of time. The garment-renders who became aghast after the draft have been proclaiming not only their anger but their ignorance as well.

We all know that being ignorant and loud really isn't a drawback on the Left. It's actually kind of their thing.

The default position for the gender pay gap crowd is to begin with an apples-and-oranges comparison of what men in similar positions make. These discussions on the Left are never allowed to introduce the wide variety of variables that influence the pay gap, of course.

Those who are shocked — SHOCKED, I tell you — by Clark's rookie salary immediately go to rookie salaries in the NBA. That's an economics discussion that is dead in the water before it even begins.

The WNBA only exists because it is subsidized by the NBA and ESPN. It would fold in days without that support. So discussion of pay-parity with NBA players is ridiculous.

Caitlin is already doing commercials. She will be fine.
Good for her. She was fun to watch in the Tournament.
A great talent.

Yup- she’ll make 5 to 6 times her salary in endorsements, if not more...her SNL appearance only helped her.

She could have competed in the NBA before it became a thug sport and the slam dunk was allowed
I stopped watching basketball when players started hanging from the hoop

When the average WNBA game sells out to a large arena and get 1 million TV viewers per game, then the players can demand better wages.

I won’t link to it directly because of language, but Bill Burr breaks it down perfectly. About how WOMEN let the WNBA down.

Actually, the NBA should learn from her. It used to be about playing the game. Nothing more.

She could never have competed in the NBA unless it was 1950- not happening. Yeh- she’s a great shooter but NBA players are incredible athletes and she would be physically pummeled on the court...

Even the NBA players of the 1950s were a lot taller, quicker, and stronger than Clark. She would have been physically overwhelmed if she ever saw the court.

The one place she could play with guys, and do well: The Harlem Globetrotters. Bursting different liberal heads in the process. But she want to play it straight, not be a gimmick.

Ms. Clark understands economics and is not a naked Marxist.

She'll be fine.

I would assume that she moves to Indiana. $76,000 is a real good salary in Indiana if you have some smarts and don’t blow it on stupid crap.

Their going to make insane money off of her specifically-

she can’t sell her services to the highest bidder-

yet the pretzel logic/mental gymnastics crowd nods along.

I am overtly familiar that exactly one team makes money and that league shouldn’t exist at all, blah, blah, blah-

The justification for her subsidizing the rest of the league is a joke.
