That 8s false. The 1978 revolution was anti monarchical and had a whole bunch of people and groups from socialists to Republicans etc. The supporters of the Ayatollahs were not the majority.
But after that, the Ayatollahs took over. This was a parallel to the march and October 1917 revolutions in the Tsardom of Muscowy
Not what I saw in 1978. They Iranians went crazy for the mullahs. When Ayatollah Khomeini landed the people mobbed him and if he touched the hand of a worshiper that person had a fit of ecstasy.
When he died it was worse as they mobbed and forced his bier to be dropped. They got what they asked for.
