Saturday on Newsmax2, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani argued the correct response to Iran’s attack on Israel would have been to hit Iran at the earliest stages of the strike as possible.
Giuliani argued that was what former President Ronald Reagan would have done if he were facing similar circumstances.

“I really do think we’re missing an opportunity, a historic opportunity here — if we had a president like my old boss in the White House,” he said. “Every time [when] I was mayor and I had to make a difficult decision, I would say, ‘What would Ronald Reagan do?’ I know what Ronald Reagan would do right now. He would have hit Iran before their first missile got to Israel. And he would have taken out every nuclear facility he could. He would have been trying to look for an opportunity to do that for years.”
Reagan? No. Bush 41. Yes. Bush 43. Yes (especially after 9/11 which happened 8 months after his inauguration).
Good point about Bush 43
I think Pres Reagan would have hit Iran first.
Protecting Israel would have been the 2nd thing he would be protecting in his mind.
The first would be America.
Hitting Iran first would be protecting America in the long run and Pres Reagan played that type of chess.
You think he would have blew up their oil?
Reagan, of blessed memory, gave Iran weapons in exchange for US hostages. For that, he was almost impeached.
I have a memory.
I wonder what Clinton would have done
He didn't retaliate after the Marines barracks bombing in Beruit.
Why not say if Trump were POTUS Iran would have been scared into not doing this in the first place?
Giuliani is probably wrong about this. Reagan bailed out of Lebanon the moment things went bad there for the U.S. there.
Yep, and he also probably would have had some joint help from Maggie Thatcher as well.
I think Clinton was unpredictable. For that reason, he would have been better than Joe.
are there aspirin factories in Iran?>
“He didn’t retaliate after the Marines barracks bombing in Beruit.”
I rcall that event.
Still am puzzled by his non-response. Unlike his character on so many levels.
Haha
Many of Reagan’s senior advisors, including (I believe) Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger — were strongly opposed to sending military forces to Lebanon in the first place. I’m sure that was foremost in his mind when the feces hit the fan there.
Reagan did launch Operation Praying Mantis - sink every Iranian vessel that floats.
Reagan would not have done that, Rudy.
Iran is close to Russia and they have a treaty. He would not have entertained fighting Russia.
I also recall the response to the marine barracks. Frankly not sure any would have done much sans a ground invasion or a use of MAD.
When Iran first started talking about retaliation, Regan probably would have sent over some B-2’s for a show of force, even if it was only to blow up a camel park.
