Iran severely underestimated Israel’s air defense capabilities and now the Ayatollah Khamenei is mad at the IRGC.

But it also serves another purpose and someone already pointed that out.
Iran does not have the eyes (IMINT) and ears (SIGINT) we have. They will likely use a “probing effort” to collect a lot of Intel for follow on or future operations. Iran was likely monitoring from where, with what, how fast, in what numbers, Israel was reacting.
Even if Israel was 99% effective at stopping what was sent their way, I would not take this lightly.
