If you know how you can look right at the sun without damage. But it’s best to just say “never do it”. It can burn holes in your cornea that will never completely heal your whole life.

How much of this was from people who actually damaged their eyes vs those who glanced at the sun and had the normal day to day scratchiness that you otherwise never worry about but panicked because of it? If your eyes hurt, it isn't likely from retina damage.
