California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) administration lost track of the $24 billion in taxpayer funds it spent over the past five years in an attempt to curb the state’s homelessness crisis, an audit has found.
The California State Auditor’s report, released on April 9, detailed multiple “gaps” in accountability in regards to how the money was allocated during the 2018-2023 fiscal years. Lead auditor Grant Parks said the state “has not collected sufficient data” to prove that the billions of dollars improved the situation.

The “progressive” county commission here gave $2.2 million in Federal Covid relief money to an inexperienced and unvetted nonprofit organization to set up a tent city for homeless on county property. The facility served a maximum of 55 people at a time, and a total of 325 during the year. The cost of “housing” one person at the encampment for a year was about $24,000. The program was only moderately successful in moving people to more stable housing, with only 16% moving to permanent housing and 14% to temporary housing, transitional housing, or residential recovery programs by the end of the year. The head of the nonprofit was arrested for assaulting one of the staff, and a county audit found major problems with financial accountability.

I have said it for a long time that these programs are not set up to do what they claim to do but are nothing more then political slush funds.
In the end it is always discovered there was no oversight, little record keeping and if possible once the money was gone to be forgotten forever.
I can safely predict nothing will be done about “losing” $24 billion dollars,no one will be held accountable.
