Gov. Ron DeSantis signs legislation hiking criminal penalties for retail thieves and "porch pirates"
"We're not gonna put up with that [...] Your package is gonna be there, and if it's not, someone is gonna have hell to pay."
"We will raise penalties [...] They are going to be deterred."
"We are gonna hold people accountable."
I'm certain grease-head Gavin will be implenmeting a similar law soon /sarc/
“implementing” I meant.
Why not any value??
Agree....
How are you gonna do that, Ron? Mandate cameras on every porch? 🤣
How about making it legal to shoot them on site?
Right - this is not petty theft - going onto someone’s private property and stealing deliveries is beyond that.
I have to admit, Governor DeSantis FINALLY got smart and did what so many of us knew he should: drop out of the POTUS race, endorse President Trump, and go back to doing the JOB that Floridians elected him to do.
And govern Florida he has! As evidenced by this example on top of many others. When he puts his effort into his JOB he does amazingly well. He is earning back the respect I used to have for him, but lost when he bumbled into competing with President Trump for the POTUS slot.
Send them to a prison with a courtyard complete with a pond complete with a few gators.
Chances are that if they do not have one the neighbors do. And the camera covers more area then just your property. Not in our case because our nearest neighbor is a quarter of a mile away but in the majority of neighborhoods, yes.
Shoot on sight [or site, as appropriate].
I like your thinking.
ANOTHER WIN. Need this nationwide.
Felony is a whole new ballgame, it takes the fun and games out of it.
How are you gonna do that, Ron? Mandate cameras on every porch? 🤣

Well, cameras on YOUR porch will definitely improve the odds that YOUR porch pirate becomes a convicted felon. Those folks that neglect to help themselves will be more likely to have their porch pirates remain without a criminal record.
If it were up to me I would legalize shooting the bastards
Castle Doctrine?
Yep, target practice is never a bad thing.
True. Like the California thugs who were too stupid to pass math in school before they were kicked out but now are great at estimating shoplifting trash bash contents’ retail values to be a dollar under the threshold.$950 and over gets at least police attention. Not under.

“State law holds that stealing merchandise worth $950 or less is just a misdemeanor, which means that law enforcement probably won’t bother to investigate, and if they do, prosecutors will let it go.
Why won’t store employees do anything about this theft? Because they don’t want to take the risk. I doubt many would, knowing that a Rite Aid employee was murdered recently after trying to stop two thieves. Moreover, a confrontation within the store risks harming not only store staff but also customers, so employees are almost certainly instructed by their managers to do nothing.
Because of this law, California is extending an open invitation to anyone to walk in and take.”

Cameras are already on most porches. You don’t see this activity in Japan, for example, because they prosecute. Good bill.
