Trump says Arizona’s abortion ban goes too far while defending the overturning of Roe v. Wade

ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump said Wednesday that an Arizona law that criminalizes nearly all abortions goes too far and called on Arizona lawmakers to change it, while also defending the overturning of Roe v. Wade that cleared states to ban the procedure.

“It’ll be straightened out and as you know, it’s all about states’ rights,” the former president told supporters and journalists after landing in Atlanta for a fundraiser. “It’ll be straightened out, and I’m sure that the governor and everybody else are going to bring it back into reason and that’ll be taken care of, I think, very quickly.”

Though Trump has waffled on whether he supports abortion rights, he appointed three of the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade and ended a federally guaranteed right to abortion. Now facing growing political backlash as Democrats notch victories around the nation by campaigning on abortion rights, Trump increasingly has been put on the defensive and urged Republicans to avoid supporting bans that are unpopular with many Americans.

Trump issued a video statement this week declining to endorse a national abortion ban and saying he believes limits should be left to the states. His statement angered some religious conservatives and energized allies of President Joe Biden who see abortion rights as one of Trump’s weaknesses.

> Constitution's enumeration clause says that abortion is a state issue.

How so ?

Can a State randomly execute someone without charging them or without a trial, since that is not an enumerated power ?

Murder in general is not detailed in the Constitution. Thus, abortion is not an enumerated power for the federal government to have a say.

Obviously there are federal limits on all state laws, including laws about murder, through things like the 14th Amendment's equal protection clause. (i.e. a state can't say it's illegal to murder whites but not blacks, or a state can't have a large punishment for murdering blacks than for murdering whites, thus the Dims' "hate crimes" legislation in various states is unconstitutional).

Trump should say it’s no longer his issue.

Agree, but even before that he should realize each and every question from the press in an intentional "gotcha-trap".

Spontaneity is not his strong suit when sparring with dishonest interviewers.

With a bit of thought, he would not have snapped off a "Yeah..." response to an ambiguous question before properly making making the states right claim.

Oh looky. No quotation marks around the phrase “too far”.

AP has in the past changed headlines in the same day, but this is quite egregious, trying to cover up a false quote.

Trump should say he is prochoice. IVF is prochoice. “We is God”.

It’s really disturbing how many “pro-life” people on this site want to lose track of this point. I think abortion should be a state’s issue, but it needs to be banned in the states and Republicans will never achieve any bans if they will not stand up for them. Trump always talks about “too far” or “too harsh.” He never talks about “too lenient.”

Obviously he is better than the cocaine addicted Alzheimer’s patient in the White House but we have the right to demand better.

“Trump has not stated current personal stand, limits, etc. Left to guessing, he’ll get pummeled by everyone.”

This is very true. I’m of the opinion that if he just came to a position and stuck to it that he would make it easier to move on. Instead he’s being deliberately squishy.

Bullshit. Trump is the only game in town for conservatives, but we have the right not to be treated like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed excrement.

Pro-life Christians have been getting blamed by the GOPE for all of their failures since 2022 and I am sick of it. There are any number of reasons that candidates lost but somehow we only ever hear about compromising on this one issue.

I realize Trump isn’t going to go for the total bans that a Biblical worldview implies but he needs to stop throwing pro-lifers to the wind.

All of the pro-life groups are angry at what he’s doing to them, even as they realize that FJB needs to go. Pro-life Christians are the backbone of the Republican party and we will not be disrespected so flagrantly.

It’s Trump on video agreeing to the question did Arizona go to far. Obviously this happened, even if it hurts your feelings.

Males should get “the switch” a valve in their Vas deferens that turns off the ability to eject sperm into the ejaculation. Also, don’t allow them to have it “switched on” until they have been married for 18 months. Don’t like that? Put a device in women that prevents pregnancy. They also cannot have it removed unless married for 18 months.

That should get rid of the white and black population, because the Muslims and the Hispanic, ain’t doing that.

This post was sarcasm...not at its best, but sarcasm nonetheless.

I dont know what all is in “an abortion” today.. I know what they have done in the years abortion has taken place. It probably still is, but not talking about it.
They harvested body parts and the baby is alive to get the parts.. Organs, Heart.. And someone has to hold the baby when they are doing this. Don’t tell me they don’t feel pain.. Dont tell me it’s OK..
I don’t know how a person can live with doing that as a job!
I finish by.. After having 4 sons the natural way, we adopted a baby girl.. She is an adult now. Thankful she was allowed to live.
