This story, of what the moments after a nuclear missile launch could look like, is based on facts sourced from exclusive interviews with presidential advisers, cabinet members, nuclear weapons engineers, scientists, soldiers, airmen, special operators, Secret Service, emergency management experts, intelligence analysts, civil servants and others who have worked on these macabre scenarios over decades.
As the plans for General Nuclear War are among the most classified secrets held by the US government, the scenario postulated here takes the reader up to the razor’s edge of what can legally be known. Declassified documents, obfuscated for decades, fill in the details with terrifying clarity.
Because the Pentagon is a top target for a strike by America’s nuclear-armed enemies, in the scenario that follows, Washington DC gets hit first with a one megaton thermo-nuclear bomb. ‘A “Bolt out of the Blue” attack against DC is what everyone in DC fears most,’ says Andrew Weber, former assistant secretary of defence for nuclear, chemical and biological defence programmes. ‘Bolt out of the Blue’ is how US Nuclear Command and Control refers to an ‘unwarned large [nuclear] attack’. Newly-declassified documents reveal chilling details of what would happen to DC in the event of a surprise nuclear attack targeting the Pentagon, pictured. It's 27,000 employees would die instantly

I’ve played Fallout, and this is a lie.
A good start?
It’s OK as long as the establishment is in charge, Biden gets his 10%, and Lib women can have an abortion whenever they want.
Hey…I have a good idea! Let’s overthrow democracies on Russia’s borders, expand NATO, and provoke Russia into a nuclear war!?!
BFL
What exactly was declassified? Read “On Thermonuclear War” by Herman Kahn if you want the low down from the Bland Corporation.
You forgot free gender affirming care.
It’s hard to think of a better reason for thermonuclear warfare than free abortion and gender affirming care.
Overkill is a misunderstood expression. It just means “redundancy because of failure.” That is, nuclear missiles are *very* prone to failure.
They blow up in their silo during launch. They fall apart just after leaving their silo. They break up during ascent while under enormous stress. Their guidance fails and they go far off course. Then their warhead fails for one of many reasons. And lots of things disrupt them.
American missiles are the best in the world, but we still have very high overkill. Russia’s overkill is so high that it far exceeds 50% of their launches.
Tactics also matter. Russia makes it a point to target enemy military targets. The US targets cities. Russia also doesn’t maintain their equipment. For example, near the end of the Soviet Union, the US Navy derisively called the Soviet Navy a “naval hazard”, because their ships were in such poor repair.
And nuclear missiles need one hell of a lot of maintenance.
An excellent start indeed!
If the exchange could be contained to just Washington DC and Moscow, that would be a win, win for the world.
Satan’s lair originates at 38°54′17″N 77°00′59″W. Closing the gates of hell and all of it’s demonic democrat inhabitants would usher a new age of renewal. /spit
Well I am not convinced Biden would even launch on alert as I think he and the toads around him would surrender first...
Using social media, possibly American citizens can reach out to Russian citizens to discuss publically and negotiate a fair-trade agreement, an equivalent value nuke target list. We can offer up our big Demonrat cities as nuke targets in exchange for what would improve Russia. The derp state swamp would be number one or two on the sacrifice list.

But then we’ll never find out what happened to those trillions of dollars that are not accounted for.
Most nukes would be air bursts. Ground bursts are where the fallout comes from.
So, if you survive the detonation and you can protect yourself for a few weeks, your chances of near term survival are OK.
Long term would depend on your location, your resources, and your community.
I saw how those firemen went in the miniseries Chernoble. Radiation sickness...naaa I would rather have it drop square on my house
This is basically an excerpt from Annie Jacobson’s book “Nuclear War, a scenario”.
I made the mistake of listening to it on a long drove recently when I got a free credit on audible.
It’s basically fanfiction emotion driven. There are a few interesting parts here and there, but it’s a highly partisan work. Once as she is discussing the idea of “launch on warning”, she is listing presidents, and literally skips Trump.
The centerpiece of her book is a Nork surprise missile on DC. Never mentions Trump and how his headway was undermined by the swamp even once.
Then the book is filled with absurdities. As she is doing it minute by minute, one was the President evacuated to his helicopter on the lawn, loaded and ready, but they delay takeoff for 3 to 4 minutes **with a nuclear missile inbound**... because his national security advisor is standing by the helo door, talking on the phone to get more facts!
Then the Helo takes off and the president is wearing a parachute harness so he and his secret service detail can bail out if needed. As the missile gets close and they are not outside the area, does the helo find the most protected spot it can and get on the ground? NOOOOO, the help pops up as high as it can, the president does a tandem parachute jump with secret service to escape to the ground!
The entire thing is peppered with interviews and quotes from libtards. William Perry, the Sec Def genius of Blackhawk down is very prominent. It’s a pantheon of leftist experts.
And there are other things. She discussed a US Military conference and meeting around 1960 where the SIOP was created and compared it to the nazi Wansee conference! She said that it was to plan a US first strike on the USSR. Ok, fair enough, Lemay and Powers and Lemnitzer were advocates of that... but Annie drops that bomb and doesn’t discuss it again. Not a single word.
She slanders Reagan and pretends he believed ICBMs from a submarine could be recalled. It’s a massive mis-characterization of his words. He was discussing the concept of nuclear subs adding a deliberative element into our ability to respond, and of the fact that cruise missiles can be aborted. But it’s a chance to slander a conservative.
The entire book is maudlin female fan fiction of a nuclear war. And of course, to hit North Korea back, we send ICBMs to overfly Russia and they mistake it for an attack on them and launch on us.
It’s a clown show.
Then she ends it 24,000 years in the future. She speaks of finding an ancient site like Göbekli Tepe in Turkey, those in the future look at the ruins of America and wonder what happened... as though all language is gone and the details of a nuclear war would not get jotted down by someone in the southern hemisphere.
Oh, by the way, the survivors would be gentle, empathetic and soft, because they spent so much time underground and had to learn how to cooperate.
Not making it up. Don’t waste a penny on it. In fact, it’s bad enough that I would avoid anything else she writes.
According to Annie Jacobsen, launch on warning is evil and we should accept the first strike and then thoughtfully respond as needed. And the President alone should not have the sole launch power. He should have to convince a committee of his top advisors. Totally not kidding.
She breezes over how one of the grandest battles in policy was removing launch decisions from the military command leaders and consolidating it into the White House.
Then she also mentions the role of the Chairman of the joint chiefs, and how he has no role in the launch decision. And conveniently forgets about Mark Milley who ordered any launch orders be approved by him before following during the DC coup in 2020.
Those not killed day one would starve or die from lack of modern medicine in the EMP resultant nightmare world within 90 days. If you want to really scare the bejeebers out of yourself listen to “One Second After”.
