Former Vice President Mike Pence blasted former President Trump on Monday for embracing the position that abortion policy should be determined by states and avoiding taking a stance on whether the federal government should enforce a national ban at a certain cutoff point.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Pence — who was Trump’s running mate in 2016 and 2020 —said Trump’s newly announced position on abortion was a “slap in the face” to opponents of abortion rights who voted for their ticket.
“President Trump’s retreat on the Right to Life is a slap in the face to the millions of pro-life Americans who voted for him in 2016 and 2020,” Pence wrote in his post, before praising the steps their administration took to further the anti-abortion effort.
“By nominating and standing by the confirmation of conservative justices, the Trump-Pence Administration helped send Roe v. Wade to the ash heap of history where it belongs and gave the pro-life movement the opportunity to compassionately support women and unborn children. In the landmark Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court returned the question of abortion to the states and the American people,” Pence wrote.

Who axed him?
I agree. It’s a states issue. Period. I’m against abortion but it’s useless talking about at this point. Fix border first then chisel away
Race Bannon needs to go away.
Pense is a slap in the face to Trump supporters.

Ditto! Moreover, he’s a worthless POS.
A slap in the face is Pence telling Deborah Birx to ignore Trump’s orders to support reopening schools.
Pence is not wanted in the GOP Party as reflected by dismal primary support, so now he wants to ruin the GOP and their candidates.
More unwanted comments from Benedict Arnold.
Maybe if he did his job and didn’t certify the election we wouldn’t need to be here now.
STFU, Pence.
Exactly. WIN first. Then chisel away.
Does Pence even understand Trump’s position on this issue? He said it should be decided by the states. So Pence blasts Trump’s stated position, while he also says it’s great that Trump’s SCOTUS appointments returned the abortion issue to the states. He’s starting to seem like a screwball to me.
So the funny thing is, that whenever a Republican strays from the firmest conservative position he’s a RINO, yet when Pence stands up for the accepted, central tenet of today’s Republican party he’s a swampdweller.
PENCE STFU!
Dood, he is Swamp filth regardless of abortion positions.
The only issues of this election are Drain the Swamp and Build the Wall. All discussion of anything else is intended to backstab Trump.
OK, but is he wrong in defending life?
How is what he is doing "defending life" (other than by running his mouth)?
That was the Reagan method of "defending life".
And what, exactly, is that "accepted central tenet"?
It's certainly not banning abortion.
A question suitable for December.
