All: Be aware that the east coast earthquakes occur underneath (and in) larger and more stiff rock areas than those in the fault-strewn California and Pacific Coast areas. A small earthquake out west can shake only a small area before the faults interrupts the motion. Many more quakes obviously by many hundred times more often. But a Mag 4 or 5 quake out west will be felt over a much smaller region than this Mag 4.7 in a very highly populated area around New Jersey.

I’m 10 miles from epicenter and house shook violently for 30 seconds- no damage found in basement or chimney. Round valley resovior is biggest in state. Huge dams, 130 ft. Deep.
