It’s not training. It’s mistraining. Cops are literally taught to empty their weapons if they perceive a threat, and they are also taught that threats are all around. The theory that success is being alive at the end of your shift produces trigger-happy narcissistic weaponized cops. If you are not willing to err on the side of a bad non-shoot, don’t become a cop.

I was never taught that, nor do I know anyone who was taught that. Employ deadly force until the point the threat is stopped.
I'm retired LEO and military and that's not how we were trained. We were trained to fire two rounds to center mass and then make sure the threat was neutralized and the world around us was a safe place. Every weapons platform has what's called a minimum response. That's the number of rounds you're supposed to fire at a threat. When firing a pistol, two rounds was the minimum response. Never during my LE or military training were we ever instructed to do a mag dump. That used to be Hollywood theatrics, but now it's become the standard for so many officers.
