Evolutionary biologist and renowned atheist Richard Dawkins, author of the 2006 book The God Delusion, came out as a “cultural Christian” this past weekend on British radio.
“I do think that we are culturally a Christian country,” Dawkins told Leading Britain’s Conversation, a British talk-radio station. “I call myself a cultural Christian,” Dawkins continued, “I’m not a believer. But there is a distinction between being a believing Christian and being a cultural Christian. And so you know I love hymns and Christmas carols and I sort of feel at home in the Christian ethos. I feel that we are a Christian country in that sense.”
Dawkins was not asked if he believes the United States is a Christian nation, but if he did, he would actually be in the minority. According to Pew, just 33% of adults consider the U.S. to be a Christian nation, although 45% say it should be. Meanwhile, 64% say the U.S. is not a Christian nation, and the majority, 51%, say it should not be one.
A solid majority, 60%, however, do believe that the founders intended the United States to be a Christian nation. That means that while 60% believe the United States was founded as a Christian nation, 64% now believe it is not.
I would really love to ask those who believe our country was founded as a Christian nation, but who now believe it is not a Christian nation, when exactly that transformation took place. What year exactly did the United States stop being a Christian nation?

This is another avenue that they will destroy Christianity with. C-opting the term (s) Christian (Christianity). He outright refuses to see the evidence of God. He essentially says, it doesn’t matter what evidence you show me, I still won’t believe. I’ve seen many of his “debates” with Christian scholars and that is where he stands. Sadly.
If there was actual evidence, we wouldn’t have as much disagreement.
So, you don’t believe in God?
None of them, no.
Well, a lot of people who don’t think far enough, don’t believe either.
But, bless your heart.
How does one think far and how does it provide evidence of the existence of a god?
He’s realizing that the “culture of your country” is dependent on the underlying religion that shapes it. He’s probably looking at all the Mohamedan’s and attitudes they have and realizes this is what comes with Islam - so you’d better make your choice, sitting ‘agnostic’ isn’t an option.
I love atheists who enjoy the benefits of Christian culture. Too bad you probably won't live long enough to express your disdain for Allah and his devotees.
I expressed no disdain.
Try that in Iran or Saudi Arabia, or Dearborn.
Annoyance and disdain are not synonyms.
Expressing contempt, or lack of respect, for something, is literally the definition of disdain.
lol.
Annoyance is also not contempt or a lack of respect.
Although I do feel all of those things toward you right now because by merely mentioning I am an atheist, you are trolling me.
Have a great day.
You have to open your eyes and look past your petty little existence which is centered upon yourself, get out of the man made cement city, and look at the forest, the majestic mountains and oceans, then consider the complexity of humans and other animals, especially their DNA. You have to consider the order in the created universe , it’s chemistry, the amazing order of mathematics and physics and you will know that it didn’t happen by random accident. All this was created. This is all evidence!
👍
Familiar with the sentiment , it’s not evidence though.
Uh, you mentioned you’re an atheist, on this thread.
2000 prophecies have been fulfilled. Archeologists find proof all the time.
I did, and I remain one.
Archeology has not found evidence of a god and prophesy is hooey.
Ironically, I'm reminded of the Evelyn Waugh quote about the benefits of being a cultural dissident in England. Except, he was smart and genuine enough to be mocking himself.
