This is a very deceptive statement because it focuses on earnings, not the cost of the education to achieve those earnings or the opportunities lost while pursuing the education.
Except for engineering and some other sciences, colleges are worthless except as brainwashing factories that instill perversions and ignorance in minds.

Because of the goobermint flooding the economy with new foreign slaves and H1Bs, the idea of paying through the nose for a useless degree and working for someone else only to have the rug pulled out from under them just before retirement becomes an anathema. Government wouldn’t try to shut it down if total freedom from their overreach didn’t pose a threat.
If the reason they are skipping college is to go into the trades, that’s a good thing. Those currently in the trades are aging out - for every 5 that retire, they are being replaced by 1 (Mike Rowe numbers).
Still need STEM college graduates, but many kids go to college & come out unable to earn a living. If they don’t mind working & getting their hands dirty, there are good-paying jobs available.
College isn’t what it used to be. And especially if you’re a white male. You will be put down and ridiculed relentlessly for the sole crime of existing.
Learn a useful trade - and overcharge your overeducated - but stupid - customers, or at least the ones that look down on you.

Guess what happens in 10 years from now when men who are gainfully employed with useful jobs and who didn’t go to indoctrination camps are making more than women who did....

Do not go to college until you want it.
Until then, apply your self - focus upon - some trade(s).
Learn to cook well. Stick to a study schedule.
Learning a trade is all well and good if you have the aptitude - just remember that for some you may wind up an old man in a lot of pain so have a backup plan for a second career of your body can’t handle it. 😞
