Too bad that the people are unwilling to stand up and put a stop to this nonsense.

I wonder if there’s a little wiggle room for some malicious compliance. Technically, the mandate is to sell vehicles with no emissions. So what if you made a vehicle that sold with a token EV motor that was cheap to make, ran on a tiny battery, and basically had enough juice to get it off the lot and a few miles away. But that same vehicle also has the ability to accept an after-market ICE that can just be dropped in later by the consumer. Oh and the company just so happens to make those as well, and have maintenance garages just a few miles from the dealerships to help the customer out.

The truth is since no one will but them, Detroit will collapse into bankruptcy.
Germany will be next.

and force the population to maintain their old cars as Cubans do by scavenging and small shop manufacturing of parts.

A friend's '99 Honda was just stolen out of his suburban Southern California driveway, to be found a couple of days later missing its transmission. Even old cars aren't safe from the predators.

Two obvious consequences of this rule:

1. Hold on to your used ICE — it’ll be worth double or more if this rule plays out.

2. Detroit will find it more profitable to pay the fines for not meeting the quotas than to sell EVs.

And judges and justices are simply ignored with no blowback.

Only if the enforcers like your DEI score. Independent minded people are on the chopping block; the fascist enforcers are itching to cause traditional Americans harm and pain.

However, are there loopholes in the EPA's authority? Can they be ignored?

Tried to find an RV spot for the night along 65 .
Couldn’t find one within 40 miles north or south of Glendale .
All full with workers RVs for the battery plant .

Believable.

Wife grew up near there. It hasn’t been bad for the family real estate holdings.

They would get push back on that high of a gas tax.
These people like to hide their actions behind bureaucratic gobblygook.

I can easily see it would be a federal tax something like the feds use for semi trucks. A modification of The Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax. A modification of Form 2290.

Each year, in order to license your vehicle, you will have to fill out a federal form... or they won’t license that vehicle.

We are so screwed if Trump isn’t reelected for a 3rd time by enough to beat the big steal.

Those are all Congressional powers, not Presidential powers.

Actually instead of "Congress" it should say "the Environmental Protection Agency shall..."

Members of Congress can be voted out. The EPA is safe from any blowback from the ignorant unwashed masses. Saving the earth has to be reserved to the experts.

Trump will cruise into office

I wish, however it's not the case.

Trump has made too many enemies, and it's all on Mister Trump.

Trump has made too many awful choices, including the porn star payoff thingie, that will dominate the news and entertainment media for every minute of every day from the day Trump wins the nom.

I'll vote for whomever wins the GOP nod, likely Trump.

I'd prefer a candidate who acted wise and presidential and had a chance to win, however.

Something is going to come to a head when EVs that nobody wants are piling up and ICE vehicles are nowhere to be found. Is this going to be what it takes for people to finally wake up?

I’m no Ford fan, but Ford is a large manufacturer who surely knows the business model, where as Joe Biden is a meddlesome loser who knows nothing about running a business, even a small one. In fact, he seems to know nearly nothing about running anything. On top of that his advisers don’t seem to be much better. I think Ford (and others) should go about their business & build what they know will sell & forget the rest. It appears to me that if the economy ever opens up that there is a large market out there for the right vehicles at affordable prices.
