Efforts to build a bridge where the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, stood until Tuesday are estimated to cost anywhere from $400 million to several billion dollars, according to reports.
Punchbowl News reports — citing sources from the Biden administration, Capitol Hill, and Annapolis — that the undertaking to replace the bridge, which collapsed after a cargo ship named Dali crashed into one of its pier foundations, will cost “several billion dollars.”

We will be lucky to have the ship removed and government investigations done by this Fathers Day.
But you ae correct that design and and reconstruction doesn’t have to be lengthy.
“$400 million to several billion dollars”
Quite a govt. ass covering variance there. Wouldn’t you say?
Wait for Trump.
Just so they can name it after Ernesto Miranda, Cesar Chavez or St. George Floyd. The Mexican ambassador is already claiming that since HIS PEOPLE died when the ship crashed into the old bridge, HIS “latinos” who can’t speaky da Latin and kill cops because they are “disabled” and can’t speak English either, are going to build the new bridge.
Baltimore is as crooked as Oakland or Atlanta. It will cost $2 for every $1 of actual cost for bribes and ghost employees.
“Baltimore Bridge Rebuild to Cost Between $400 Million and Billions of Dollars”
Now THAT is an “estimate” I can have faith in.
Not even a NUMBER of billions just BILLIONS.
They may end up spending a lot more than that, but it will not be built.
For perspective. Bidens Border Invasion costs the US $360 billion a year.
Cheapest and quickest way to do it is to build Dolphins in front of the bridge for protection from collisions by container ships.
Best thing to do is to tear the whole thing and build a brand new suspension bridge. Might as well as start over and do it right.
That company would be required to have insurance against property damage if their ship should run into something, right?
It is absolutely wrong for the taxpayer to bear this cost!!!!!!!
Much of the coverage for this event is absurd and it gets worse by the day.
I’m still waiting for the CIA ‘Zoom Tacking Maneuver” to explain the collision... /s
Well, given the amount of graft, corruption, kickbacks, enviro regs et al, that sounds way too cheap. It’ll probably take 10 years and with sky high Bidenomics at work…. Well… I bet we’ll be lucky to see it built at $100B.
You can’t build a BIKE PATH that long for $400 million…
Sheeeesh!!!
What assurance do we have they won’t tear it down 5 years later because it’s “racist”?
Maryland just opened the new four lane, 1.7 mile Harry Nice Bridge across the lower Potomac about a year ago. It is somewhat similar to the Francis Scott Key Bridge as it has to accommodate ship traffic under it. I haven’t found the final total cost, but I think it came in under $1b, not including demo of the old bridge it replaced. Construction started in 2019, if memory serves me right. Triple the cost and you probably have the cost for the replacement of the FSK Bridge given it will need to have a longer clear span over the shipping channel and extra protection for the piers.
They had no insurance liability? I don’t buy that notion for an instant.
At minimum they are a conduit to the true ownership of that vessel.
My point is this: There is NO good reason for this to be laid on the backs of the American Taxpayers...NONE.
My guess is ain’t their first rodeo...
And, that’s what the reinsurance markets are for, right? To cover extremely large exposures?
If you contract with a trucking company to carry a load to somewhere else, and their truck with your load, hits a bridge abutment and knocks the bridge down, are you responsible for the damages.
