This is an article by a former Royal Navy officer giving his perspective on the tragic collision between the ship Dali and the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
It is based, as he says, on the best information he had available at time of writing.

I learned a new word today...
ultracrepidarian: noun - a person who criticizes, judges, or gives advice outside their area of expertise.
Thanks.
The channel will be cleared in less than two weeks in order to reopen the port, and the bridge sections will be replaced in less than a year.
There have been innumerous scams over the decades whereas players spiked fuel supplies with chemicals, water and even industrial waste to dilute fuels for profit.
The investigation should prove interesting.
Wrong place, wrong time.
Ditto. I forgot to mention insurers.
“and the bridge sections will be replaced in less than a year.”
Not if biden is involved in any way. That’s the dem game.
Thanks, you are Chad!
I have not heard one word about the captain or pilot on this ship. Kind of weird because the pilot is being credited with saving lives by promptly calling Mayday.
Dreamer.
The timeline was something like four minutes between loss of power/control and collision. In that time, the pilot radio’s for tugs, made a Mayday call to save people, regained control then lost it again. Heroic stellar work.
No way a tug could possibly get there on time. Tugs are by design very slow but very powerful. One article said the top speed of a tug is about the speed the ship was going.
That ship couldn’t untie from the dock without two pilots on board. One for the harbor clearance and one to take it from the harbor boundary out to where the channel ends and the open sea starts. Harbor pilot hands off to the channel pilot and the channel pilot hands off to the ships captain and the both pilots get on the pilot boat and leave.
Not one "Smith", "Jones", "O'Hara" or "Washington" among the lot.
Catholic Charities is a terrorist organization.
Shame we don't have American steel any more.
Having a Harbor Master on board a large ship is quite common, even for military ships. Their job is primarily navigational: they know the channel, navigational hazards, waypoints for turns, and currents. They typically come aboard onshore, or shortly after a ship departs. They stay aboard until the ship has exited or is about to exit the navigation channel.
The harbor master does not typically get involved with any engineering issues, though they will give steering commands to the helm.
The harbor master being aboard does not concern me at all.
Basically, the train left the tracks because: the train.
Happened at a place where the train was starting to cross a railroad bridge over a large river.
"six men were working for Brawner Builders, filling potholes on the center span of the bridge"
bttt
The knowledgeable author shows the primary root cause to be a failed electrical system. If a national election can be digitally altered, can the ship’s electrical system be digitally shut down, either directly or by causing a point of failure such as an overload somewhere?
When accidents like this happen it is rarely caused by a single issue.
I’ve observed that most accidents require two or more things going wrong at the same time. For example, I was hit by a car at a pedestrian intersection. (1) The driver making a left didn’t see me. (2) I was wearing black clothes on a cloudy dreary day, making me hard to see. (3) I responded to and trusted the pedestrian signal, but didn’t look continuously at all moving vehicles and proceed cautiously like I do now. (4) The intersection lacked ways to alert drivers of the infrequent pedestrians.
I did as well, including all the fawning over the ‘victims’.
(in CONTRAST to recent events, including the little one in Paradise)
The twin spans (New Orleans-Slidell) were damaged during Katrina...they got fixed quicker than that.
This looks like a much longer bridge though.
high winds
\/
speaking of wind(s)
ive seen many mentions of the wind speed,, anywhere from 3 to 8 to 15
but if you view the video you will notuce there is zero wind
you can tell cuz of the mirror like reflection across the water of lights .
any breath of wind on water and you wouldnt be able to see this mirror glass like smoothness and reflections.
