The University of Chicago, once a sports powerhouse, quit sports altogether. It did not die. One could even say it was improved. The Ivy League was a response to the professionalism in college sports. Football won’t die if its importance is diminished. Pro teams will just create their own minor leagues.
What’s to stop a court from obliterating the NFL salary cap, even though it was something the player’s union and owners negotiated and agreed upon?
I think there’s a good argument to be made that colleges and universities should be institutions of higher learning, not the minor leagues for professional sports. That will probably be considered a medieval opinion nowadays.
College Football is nothing more than an NFL Farm System now.
The rich programs get richer while the poor programs get poorer.
A lot of schools will be dropping football in the upcoming years.
A lot of D1 basketball programs will likely go D2, or NAIA.
Fans in cities and wealthy could gave college aged football players a team to join. or more minor leagues. There is no law that says a college should have a football or basketball team Intermural sports might keep those interested, active on campus,.
The whole mess is out of control and will doom sports.
