ISIS - we hated and killed them in Aghanistan, then armed and allied with them in Syria. We also liked them again when Israel told us they were kool... again.

But first we armed them in Afghanistan when the Russians invaded. I still remember advertisements in SOLDIER OF FORTUNE magazine begging for donations for the islamic fighters in Afghanistan.
US & Britain armed and trained Kurdish militias, supported them with airstrikes and special forces, and destroyed all the overt parts of ISIS in the Raqqa campaign (2017) among others. That ended the Syrian phase of that war.
Similarly the US backed up Kurdish and Shiite forces in the extermination of ISIS in the Mosul campaign (2017).
You should have been paying attention.
