Two squatters in a Kips Bay apartment building who allegedly murdered a woman last week and stuffed her in a duffel bag before fleeing inside her car remain on the loose, police officials said Thursday. According to Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, 52-year-old Nadia Vitel had arrived at the vacant 19th floor apartment inside of 206 East 31st St. last week, which had belonged to her mother before she died. However, when she arrived, cops believe she was met with a horrific surprise.
“We believe that some squatters took the apartment over and this woman came home to get this apartment set up, and walked in on the squatters that were there,” Chief Kenny said.

Some of Biden’s invading enemy agents?
The article says the police have identified the suspects but didn’t release names.
Well, we all know what that means.
I didn’t realize people were doing this to apartments as well as vacant homes.
I had it happen to the house next door to my old house. It turned into a crack house within about a week. Took the whole neighborhood about two years to be able to make them uncomfortable enough to leave.
Are the police protecting the squatters by not releasing their identity?
An individual in Venezuela has a TikTok blog telling the invaders how to use our squatter laws to steal property
Has millions of viewers. I’m sure most here have seen this.
One of the first things to do when Trump takes over. Outlaw squatters’ rights laws.

Around here we call it shoot and shovel.
Most of my friends have trackhoes and other heavy equipment.
Surely, the poor squatters were rightfully defending themselves against a home invasion by the actual owner. No doubt the tax payers now owe them a couple of million bucks for the pain and suffering they had to endure. </sarc> This is New York after all.
No names. No pictures, though the suspects were caught on the building’s security cameras. The public is of course asked to be on the lookout for “suspects” with no identifying information.
This NY Post article describes the suspects as a black male and female.
“The apartment itself is very unique in that there’s no front door to apartment. You take an elevator up and then you key your way in. The elevator is actually your front door,” Kenny said, adding “it’s an upscale apartment.”
It’s unlikely that unauthorized people could even enter the building, much less the apartment.
Good thing she didn’t hurt the squatters. A lady in NY just got arrested for changing the locks on her house. She was arrested because she didn’t give the squatters a key. It’s a pathetic world we now live in. Just about every person I talk to doesn’t think we could survive another Biden term. They also see a civil war if there is another 2020 style election. Most of the people I talk to aren’t political. They are normal working class people.
It’s unlikely that unauthorized people could even enter the building, much less the apartment.
Delivery companies have high turnover plus delivery persons can sell/tell entry codes. Not secure at all.
Yeah, it sounds more like a robbery, and killing of the victim for good measure than a squatting situation.
I’m sure ‘unauthorized people’ find ways. They always do.
This is easily a death penalty crime. The kind that is done 5 minutes after the sentence is handed down. Marched straight to the gallows in front of the court house.
That’s interesting. In my town - which is definitely not upscale, the apartment building foyers have call boxes. Delivery people have to call the resident and be buzzed in. Cameras are at all entry points and on all floors. Entries in buildings like this require a fob.
I think this type of setup is pretty much SOP in most apartment buildings - like the one described in the article - nowadays.
so you get buzzed in. takes a code for the elevator. resident finds it easier to give code than to come down.
security process keeps honest and marginal people honest. Pretty easy to find a work around.
