I grew up in NYC and moved out around 10 years ago, but all the time people would ask me how it was living there and I would say “It’s like living in North Korea but with food” and they would laugh, but I wasn’t kidding. It’s like living under a tyranny, everything is about the government. The city dictates what you can and cannot have right down to the last atom, determines how much money you can have, where you can live, what you can eat, drink, everything and anything is regulated, they even dictate your freedom like this woman who had the audacity to complain about someone breaking into her house........
Oh yeah and elections? Forget about elections, none of them are legit. Nobody supports the rep they are assigned like AOC. Everytime she gives a speech in NYC you’ll see people yelling at her telling her to resign yet she wins elections.

I've always likened NY State to the former East Germany - living off its Christian cultural past, one-party marxist rule, life is OK in the center of power, but getting worse for those outside, control from elsewhere, with a culture/political elite who decide what the plebs see and hear - and it snows a lot too.
I'm stealing that. After 23 years of continuous NYC living, I move out at the end of the month. I'm taking your line with me.
