How Trump’s Allies Are Winning the War Over Disinformation
NYT via Yahoo ^ | 03 17 2024 | Jim Rutenberg and Steven Lee Myers

In the wake of the riot on Capitol Hill on Jan. 6, 2021, a groundswell built in Washington to rein in the onslaught of lies that had fueled the assault on the peaceful transfer of power.

Social media companies suspended Donald Trump, then the president, and many of his allies from the platforms they had used to spread misinformation about his defeat and whip up the attempt to overturn it. President Joe Biden’s administration, Democrats in Congress and even some Republicans sought to do more to hold the companies accountable. Academic researchers wrestled with how to strengthen efforts to monitor false posts.

Trump and his allies embarked instead on a counteroffensive, a coordinated effort to block what they viewed as a dangerous effort to censor conservatives.

They have unquestionably prevailed.

Waged in the courts, in Congress and in the seething precincts of the internet, that effort has eviscerated attempts to shield elections from disinformation in the social media era. It tapped into — and then, critics say, twisted — the fierce debate over free speech and the government’s role in policing content.

"...the fierce debate over free speech and the government’s role in policing content."

The government has no role in policing content.

The left is working to redefine "free speech" as 'Trump, far-right election disinformation' which is why they believe they have the right to censor free speech on social media platforms and elsewhere. Court judgments moving forward are going to be critical.

Given how Rush led the way in making radio an alternative to the left’s control of the “news” narrative, I think Rush would be proud of how conservatives today aren’t letting the left be the only voice.

The New York Times propaganda is misinformation. The New York Times since absolutely refusing to report or investigate the Hunter Biden laptop has lost its credibility. The “newspaper of record” can only be rehabilitated if it is sold to new owners.

The Biden regime, big tech and the Soros paid propaganda machine have worked overtime to suppress the evidence of the 2020 election steal and the premediated release of the virus. They killed millions to get rid of just one guy.

government’s role in policing content

I am pretty sure this once was called censorship, at least when a foreign govt that we didn’t like was doing it.

I don’t need anyone to tell me what is or isn’t the truth. I’ve got a pretty good bulls!t filter and it’s based on the premise that anything the government tells me is a lie until I can prove otherwise through sources readily available to anyone who cares to take the time to investigate.

Yup—what the controllers are up to is they want a narrow Overton Window—but want to expand its depth to reach into areas outside of politics.

I have a many decades long interest in the UFO topic—and researchers (from the most scholarly to the most kooky) are equally banned on Youtube. .Gov does not want this discussed at all. They just want their own official talking points repeated—and the slightest deviation to be banned.

It is amazing to see.
